Five Years Wasted Now They Beg Her Back novel Chapter 286

A dilapidated iron-frame bed stood against one wall, the nightstand beside it cluttered with yellowed medicine bottles.

Lying on the bed was an emaciated old man, nothing but skin and bones.

This was Tristan Holloway.

The once-arrogant executive from a branch of the Clarke family, the man who had so arrogantly humiliated her uncle at the bidding conference.

Now, his mouth was twisted to one side, his cloudy eyes staring blankly at the ceiling. Drool trickled from the corner of his lips, soaking the pillowcase.

Paralyzed by a stroke, unable to speak.

Was this his retribution?

Grace looked at him, but felt no satisfaction.

Only a profound sense of sorrow.

Her uncle was dead. And this man, the one who started it all, was still alive—even if he was living like a dog.

"He had the stroke three years ago."

Damien stood at the doorway, not entering. "His children took his money and ran, leaving him here to rot."

Grace didn't speak.

She walked to the bedside and looked down at Tristan Holloway.

Sensing her presence, Tristan's eyes shifted stiffly, landing on Grace's face.

The next second, his pupils contracted violently, and a choked, gurgling sound escaped his throat, as if he had seen a ghost.

"It seems you remember my uncle."

Grace sneered. "I remember you, too. At that dinner, you forced my uncle to drink a whole bottle of whiskey, telling him you'd spare him if he did."

"He drank it. Drank until his stomach bled."

"But what did you do? You turned around and sold his bid to your competitor."

Tristan Holloway's body trembled, his withered fingers clawing at the bedsheets. He seemed to be trying to say something, but only incoherent whimpers came out.

Just then, the attendant came in.

She glanced fearfully at Damien in the doorway, then pulled an old cell phone, wrapped in layer upon layer of plastic, from her pocket.

"This… he clutched this when he first got here. Hid it in his pillow stuffing like his life depended on it."

The attendant handed the phone to Grace. "He called it his insurance policy. After the stroke, when he couldn't talk right, he'd just point at it and grunt."
