A formal split from Hudson was now her only chance for survival.

Julian watched as her face turned ashen, looking like a sheet of fragile glass.

He reached out to comfort her, but his hand hovered in the air before he pulled it back.

“My team has the assassin in custody. I’ll break him myself and give you the full story.”

“Mr. Forster,” Jade said, meeting his gaze with a look of profound gratitude.

“I can’t thank you enough for everything, but I have nothing to offer in return.”

Julian chuckled softly. “Who said anything about a debt? Just buy me a few dinners and we’re

even.”

“But-”

“That’s enough.”

His fingers twitched as he finally allowed himself to gently brush her shoulder.

It was a fleeting touch, retracted almost as soon as it landed.

“Go inside and rest. And make sure you treat those cuts on your palms immediately.”

“Your wound is the priority,” Jade insisted, her eyes fixed on his blood-soaked bandage.

“I’m sorry I can’t come with you to the hospital. Please send me a photo once you’re patched up.”

She knew Hudson was watching like a hawk and would never let her leave.

A public scene would only bring more humiliation, and she was done with that.

“Fine. It’s a deal.”

Julian gave her a final wave as he turned to his car.

“I’m heading out. Call me if you need a savior again.”

Jade nodded with a sense of finality.

She stood alone until the taillights faded, then turned back to Hudson with a flat expression.

“If you’re finished staring, I’m going back to my apartment.”

Hudson lunged forward and grabbed her shoulder, his thumb rubbing the fabric aggressively.

“You aren’t even going to ask why I’m here?”

Jade countered with a cold stare.

“Does the reason even matter?”

“How does it not matter?” Hudson snapped, his composure finally failing him.

“I had men watching you for your safety. I rushed here the moment I heard there was trouble.”

Jade shoved his hand away, a sharp, mocking sneer twisting her lips.

“The result is the same regardless. Your ‘protection’ is nothing but a performance.”

Hudson looked stunned. “What are you talking about?”

The mockery in her eyes deepened into a lethal chill.

“You ordered them to watch me, not protect me. If Mr. Forster hadn’t been here, I’d be a corpse.”

Hudson blurted out, “They didn’t realize the severity of the threat! If they had-”

“Save your breath. I don’t care about your excuses anymore.”

Jade cut him off, pulling up the photo on her phone and thrusting it into his face.

“Look at this. This is Amara kissing Lyndon Spenser. She’s been hiding him from you. They want to silence me for good for fear of me leaking it.”

Hudson’s eyes scanned the intimate image, but his response was predictably defensive.

“Amara is a woman of integrity. She would never do this.”

Jade let out a short, hollow laugh; she had known this was coming.

“Hudson, with your resources, you could verify this in an hour. But you choose to ignore it.”
