Jade didn’t even wait for a reaction, snapping photos of the carnage before sending a set to Michael Merchant and another to her lawyer.
“Robert racked up millions in gambling debt and gave the mob my address. I’m sending you the bill for the damages he caused tonight.”
Robert was Michael’s golden boy; if he made a mess, Michael could be the one to pay for it.
Hudson watched her documenting the scene, a look of bored pity on his face.
“Jade, those men are just bottom-tier thugs. Even with your evidence, they’ll be out of jail in forty-eight hours. Then they’ll come back to haunt you. You can’t handle this alone. Only I have the power to protect you.”
His tone was one of absolute certainty; he had decided she was helpless and would eventually have to crawl back to him.
Jade looked at his arrogant, superior posture and then at the ruins of her life, and it felt like a sick, absurd comedy.
She looked up, her eyes locking onto his with a lethal focus.
“You were so sure I couldn’t handle it that you stood in the hallway and watched those men break into my home and smash my things just so you could play the hero? You let them destroy my sanctuary just to prove I’m nothing without you?”
She dug her nails into her palms until she drew blood, her eyes burning with a raw fury.
“You and the entire Walter family look down on me as if I’m subhuman. You are selfish, cold- blooded monsters. To me, you are a thousand times more disgusting than the men who just trashed this room!”
Hudson was momentarily speechless, his mind blanking as the insult hit home.
“You think I’m… disgusting? Vile?”
“Am I wrong?”
Jade’s voice was like a winter gale as she pressed him, the bitterness in her soul finally overflowing.
“You claim you want me back, but every single action you take is designed to humiliate me and push me to the edge. I may have no family to turn to, but I will never be pathetic enough to rely on a man like you again!”

In three years of marriage, he genuinely believed he had provided her with a perfect life.
He had never imagined that this was how she truly viewed him.
The visceral rejection in her eyes made him realize that she no longer valued anything he had to offer.
A sudden, sharp panic flared in his chest, and he moved to grab her, but Jade stepped back and pointed at the door.
“Get out.”
His arms closed on empty air, and his heart felt as if it had been hollowed out by a jagged blade. The pain was far worse than he had expected.
Jade grabbed a broom from the corner and began physically driving him toward the exit. “GET OUT! GET THE HELL OUT!”
Hudson didn’t want to leave, but being chased out of an apartment with a broom was a level of humiliation he had never experienced. He couldn’t just stand there and be degraded further.
Before he could process the shift in power, he was pushed into the hallway. Slam.
The door was shut and locked, cutting him off from her world entirely.
He stared at the wood, his hand raised to knock but the memory of her eyes made his arm fall uselessly to his side.
Sometimes, he truly couldn’t fathom what it was that Jade Merchant actually wanted.
The title of Mrs. Walter was a position of nearly unlimited power and wealth.
She possessed what millions of women would kill for.
Was that truly not enough for her?
Hudson stood there for a long time before finally heading down to the lobby.
His guards had the thugs pinned against the wall, waiting for his final judgment.
He walked up to the leader and let out a short, old scoff.
“Look at me.”
