Anthony arrived at the hospital that afternoon, looking worn down and exhausted from travel.
Learning his father was stable allowed him to breathe for the first time, though his fatigue, was unmistakable.
“Anthony,” Jade said, taking the seat next to him.
“Is there trouble at Rory’s company as well?”
She had never seen him look this defeated before.
Anthony met her worried gaze and forced a reassuring smile.
“Minor setbacks. Some rare inventory was snatched by a competitor. We’ll find another
source.”
Jade’s chest tightened..
“How does a secure shipment just vanish like that?”
The realization hit her, and her throat tightened with a sudden, sharp fear.
“It was the Walters, wasn’t it? They’re systematically destroying your mother’s business to get
to me.”
Anthony hesitated for a split second before shaking his head.
“It’s not them, Jade. Don’t let your imagination run wild,”
But that one flicker of hesitation was enough. Jade understood.
She shot from her chair, her face a mask of absolute agony.
“It’s always them! What do they want from me that they haven’t already taken?”
Anthony gently pulled her back into her seat.
“Jade, this isn’t on you. The Walters are simply monsters. Listen to my mom, Go abroad and stay away until the legal separation is final.”
Jade buried her face in her hands, her eyes hollow and vacant.
“I am so incredibly sorry for what I’ve brought onto your family.”

“If it means you get your freedom, then every single loss we take is a price worth paying.”
Jade let out a soft, broken sob, her heart overflowing with gratitude and grief.
She had thought she was alone, but the Mitchell had given her a family when she needed it
most.
Hudson was burning her world down just to force her back into his cage.
She had to run. She had to put oceans between them.
Only then would he lose the power to use the people she loved as weapons against her.
After leaving Edward, Jade returned home to an unexpected call from Jeff Mond.
“Jade! I haven’t been able to reach Julian since yesterday. Has he contacted you at all?”
Jeff’s frantic tone made Jade’s heart drop like a stone.
She gripped her phone until her knuckle
“What’s happened to Julian?”
turned white.
“He’s on a high-risk mission overseas. He always checks in to confirm his safety, but he’s been silent for twenty-four hours. I’m terrified something went wrong”
“I haven’t heard a word,” Jade’s voice was vibrating with a fear she didn’t even recognize yet.
“I’ll… I’ll try calling his private line right now.”
“Please. I’ll be waiting by my phone.”
Jade began frantically dialing Julian, sending voice notes, and flooding his messages.
There was nothing but a haunting, absolute silence on the other end.
Had something catastrophic actually happened o him?
The memory of Julian’s warm, reassuring smile before he left played on a loop in her mind.
Ring, ring, ring-
A call came through, and she snatched up the phone, but the ID was a string of unknown

She hoped it was Julian using a burner phone to bypass security protocols.
Jade hit the answer button with a desperate hope.
“Hello?”
“Jade.”

The voice on the other end turned her blood to ice, leaving her paralyzed in the middle of her living room.
She stood frozen, her lips moving silently for a full minute before she found her voice.
“Why the hell are you calling me?”
“Who were you expecting? Julian Forster? He’s currently fighting for his life overseas. Don’t expect another call from him ever again.”
Jade’s grip on the phone was lethal as her fragile composure shattered once again.
