Chapter 156 Walls Between Us
Rosa slapped her thighs in distress, her voice rising with worry.
“There’s no magic fix for this. She has to let it all out, then I’ll give her something sour to wake up her appetite. That’s the only way to stop the retching.”
Hudson pursed his lips, his gaze fixed on the bathroom door. “Is this just… part of being pregnant?”
“It depends on the person,” Rosa replied. Seeing ade stumble out, she rushed over to steady her.
“Ma’am, I’ve got some chilled ginger tea in the kitchen. Would you like a sip? It should help with the nausea.”
Jade waved a weak hand, her face pale. “No, thank you. I just want to rest.”
“Then let me help you up.” Rosa guided her with extreme care, as if she were holding a piece of priceless porcelain.
Hudson watched as Jade treated him like thin air not even sparing him a side-glance as he followed them upstairs.
Second Floor.
Rosa led Jade toward the room with the best sunlight.
At the threshold, Jade took one look at the cold, masculine decor and froze.
“I’m not staying in this room. Find me somewhere else.”
“But…”
Rosa looked back, hesitating.
This wasn’t her call to make; she needed to see what the master thought.
Hudson’s brows knit together as he stepped up beside Jade.
“This is the master suite. If you don’t stay here, where else would you go?”
“I said I’m not staying here.” Jade didn’t budge an inch. Staying under the same roof was torture enough; sharing a bed was out of the question.
Rosa opened her mouth to persuade her, but she was stunned when the usually stubborn
Hudson actually backed down.
“Fine. If you hate it that much, you don’t have to stay here. Rosa, get the room next door ready for her.”
“Right away, sir!”
Rosa turned to the guest room, but Jade stopped her at the door.
“Not that one, Rosa. I want the one on the far left. It gets the most sun.”
Rosa looked torn, glancing back at Hudson, who was still standing in the hallway.
“Sir…”
Jade didn’t want to look at him, so she tucked herself behind Rosa.
The gesture made it clear she was avoiding him like he was a plague.
Hudson’s face hardened with displeasure.
“Let her have it!”
Bam!
He stepped into the master suite and slammed the door with a deafening crash.
