"She's not upstairs, sir. She went out a little while ago."
"She went out?" Hudson's voice rose, sharp and accusatory.
Rosa sounded startled by his tone, her voice turning hesitant. "Y-yes, sir..."
Hudson ground his teeth and hung up. He immediately pulled up the CCTV footage for the living room on his phone.
Jade had indeed left. He had told her to reflect, but she'd ignored him completely.
Not only had she ignored him, but she'd clearly spent time dressing up before heading out.
Who was she going to see? Who was worth that much effort?
Was it Julian Foster?
"Hudson..."
Amara's soft, fragile voice drifted into his ear.
"What's wrong? You look so upset. Are you feeling okay?"
Hudson shoved his phone back into his pocket, his face smoothing over as he looked at her.
"I'm fine. Just some work stuff I need to handle at home. Take care of Cortney."
Amara reached out and caught his arm.
"Hudson, I've been thinking... did Jade get the wrong idea because you were with us? I should go back with you and explain things."
As she spoke, she shifted her arm so the loose sleeve slid down, revealing the jagged, ugly scars on her skin. A bitter smile touched her lips.
"Once she sees these, I'm sure she'll understand everything was an emergency."
Hudson felt a pang of pity. He gently pulled her sleeve back down, covering the wounds.
"You haven't done anything wrong. You don't need to explain a thing to her."
"No, I really should," Amara insisted, her face filled with guilt.
"I've done so many stupid things... especially at the gala..."
She clutched her head, looking like she was in physical pain.
"I don't know why I get like this. Sometimes I just... I can't control my emotions. My head fills with such dark thoughts."
Tears began to spill from her eyes, and she gripped Hudson's hand tightly.
"Hudson, please let me explain. I won't be able to forgive myself until I hear her say she forgives me."
Hudson felt both helpless and heartbroken for her.
"Jade isn't home right now. Only Rosa is there."
"Then isn't that perfect?" Amara wiped her eyes.
"Rosa was so kind to me and Cortney when we lived with you. We haven't seen her in ages, and Cortney really misses her. Take us over to see her for a bit."
