From His Ex-Wife to the World's Most Sought-After Restorer (Jade and Hudson) novel Chapter 254

"Follow them." Hudson's face went white. He grabbed the car keys he'd just set down and bolted for the door.

"I'm on my way now."

"Yes, sir," Kevin replied.

Back in the living room, Bert watched Hudson rush out, his expression entirely unchanged. He sat back down to finish his coffee.

As long as it didn't touch the family's bottom line or his own reputation, he didn't care what Hudson did.

The suburbs.

Jade and Amara stepped out of the cab in front of a cluster of nondescript farmhouses.

Jade scanned the perimeter. Amara, sensing a lapse in her focus, tried to bolt, but Jade snatched her collar and yanked her back, the knife returning to her throat.

"Don't try it. Where is she?"

Amara loathed being controlled like this, her chest tight with frustration. she pointed toward the middle farmhouse.

"In the cellar!"

As they approached, two guards stepped out from the doorway.

She was right. Jade tightened her grip on the knife.

The guards saw the blade at Amara's throat and their faces went pale. They moved to intervene.

"Miss Hoyt!"

"Stay back!"

Jade pressed the blade deeper into Amara's skin.

"One more step and I'll finish her before I finish myself!"

Warm blood began to trickle down Amara's neck again. Amara's skin crawled; she was genuinely afraid Jade was unstable enough to do it.

Seeing the guards still hesitating, Amara screamed at them.

"Back off! I said back off! Are you deaf?"

The two guards exchanged a look and slowly retreated.

Jade kept her hand on Amara's shoulder, pushing her toward the door.

"Tell them to open the cellar. I want to see Jewell."

Amara stumbled forward, her voice high with fear.

"Open it!"

The guards obeyed, leading the way to a dark corner of the house where a set of stairs led down.
