Chapter 31 The Riverside Villa
Unwilling to give up, he dialed again, but Jade still didn’t answer his consecutive calls.
Hudson’s grip on his phone tightened.
He dialed Rosa instead.

“Mr. Walter, you’re looking for Ms. Hoyt, right?” Rosa answered immediately. “She booked a skincare session at home with an esthetician, so she probably didn’t hear her phone. I’ll go get her right now.”
An inexplicable, lingering irritation settled in Hudson’s chest.
“I’m looking for Jade. Where is she?”
“Huh?”
Rosa froze for two seconds before responding.
“Mrs. Walter has been leaving the house very early these days. She usually doesn’t come back until nighttime.”
Hudson pinched the bridge of his nose again.
He had almost forgotten that Jade had her own job now.
She wasn’t sitting at home every day, waiting at his beck and call around the clock.
She wasn’t like the old Jade, who would magically appear the second he needed her.
Forget being like before; she didn’t even bother to take his calls now.
Things slipping out of his control made Hudson deeply uncomfortable, like something vital was missing.
When Rosa didn’t hear him speak for a while, she couldn’t help but ask.
“Mr. Walter, is there anything else?”
Hudson forced down the dark look in his eyes. “Have Jade call me the second she gets home.”
“Yes, Mr. Walter,” Rosa agreed.
Hanging up, Hudson leaned back in his office chair, yanked his tie loose with a finger, and tossed it aside, furrowing his brows in deep thought.
Sure, Jade ignoring his calls was infuriating, but he shouldn’t be letting it affect him this much.
Maybe it was just a habit?
That afternoon, Jade left Memoria Script Studio after Michael called her home.
In a rare occurrence, Cindy had prepared a massive feast, the dishes laid out perfectly across the dining table.
Walking in, Jade immediately spotted Robert sitting cross-legged on the couch, glued to a video game.

No wonder there was so much food. Robert was home.
This VIP treatment was strictly reserved for Cindy’s precious son.
Robert glanced up at her at the sound, then immediately dove right back into his game.
In this house, Jade had slowly become a dispensable stranger, a sad reality she had only recently come to terms with.
Ten minutes later.
Jade sat at the dining table with Michael’s family of three.
In an unprecedented move, Cindy ladled a bowl of chicken soup for Jade.
“Jade, you’ve lost weight lately. Drink some chicken soup to build up your strength.”
Jade thanked her politely.
“Thanks.”
Unwarranted kindness always came with a hidden agenda.
Jade knew this better than anyone, especially when it came to her stepmother.
She stirred the soup with her spoon but didn’t drink, waiting for Cindy to drop the act.
Cindy lacked the patience for fake niceties. Seeing that Jade wasn’t causing a scene, she cut straight to the chase.
“Last time you said you and Hudson had a fight. You two must’ve made up by now, right? Find a good time to bring up the Riverside District villa with him.”
Jade dropped her spoon into the bowl.
“I told you I’m divorcing Hudson, I meant it. It wasn’t a joke.”
Cindy’s expression instantly turned sour.
“Jade, who are you trying to fool? We all know how desperate you were to marry Hudson back then. You two have been together for three years, and now you suddenly want a divorce? Who’d buy that crap?”
Robert chimed in to back his mother up.
“Yeah, like you’d actually let a guy like him go.”
Looking at the mother and son acting so entitled, Jade couldn’t hold back a cold laugh,
“Whether I let him go or not is my business. Not only am I seriously divorcing him, but even if I wasn’t, I still wouldn’t bring up the villa. If you want a house, figure it out yourselves. Stop calling me over just to badger me for it. I don’t owe you anything!”
Bang!
Robert slammed his fist onto the table and shot to his feet.
