Although she always looked down on Jade’s modest background, since Jade married into the family, she had kept the household running perfectly, saving Emily from any worry.

Before Hudson and Jade moved out, they lived in the main estate, and Jade took meticulous care of everyone.

Jade was a bit submissive, sure, but she was organized, steady, and never lost her temper.

Most importantly, Jade took excellent care of Hudson.

Years ago, Hudson’s workaholic lifestyle had wrecked his sleep schedule and ruined his stomach, leaving his health in tatters.

Emily had nothing left to say. She was about to bring up the baby issue again when he spoke up.

“Mom, I have a meeting. I have to go.”

Staring at the disconnected call, Emily couldn’t stop shaking her head.

None of them ever give me peace of mind.

When Emily headed downstairs, Amara immediately approached her, wearing a face full of concern.

“Emily, is Jade okay?”

“She’s fine,” Emily replied smoothly. “What could possibly be wrong?”

Noticing Emily’s displeasure, Amara curled her lips and tested the waters.

“Lately, it seems like Jade and Hudson are constantly arguing about divorce. I wonder if it’s because of me.”

Emily shot her a glance and answered dryly.

“It’s just a minor spat between a married couple.”

Amara’s fingers twitched at her sides, but she forced a stiff smile.

“That’s a relief. I was just worried that Cortney and I were ruining their relationship. Last time, Hudson agreed to turn a room into a princess bedroom for Cortney, and Jade threw a huge fit.”

“That happened?”

Emily frowned.

“Which room?”

“The one on the second floor facing the garden,” Amara replied.

“Wasn’t that the room Jade set aside for the nursery?” Emily’s frown deepened.

“Hudson must have been too busy and forgotten. No wonder Jade was upset.”

Amara had fully expected Emily to scold Jade for being unreasonable.

She didn’t anticipate things taking this turn at all.

She tugged at her lips, her smile growing even more strained.

“Should I have Cortney move out then? I didn’t know about it either.”

Emily waved it off.

“Forget it. We’ll cross that bridge when they actually have a kid.”

“You seem to really love kids, Emily. How about I send Cortney over to play with you for a few days? She’s been talking about Hudson’s grandma non-stop. She’d be thrilled to hang out with you.”

“No thanks,” Emily rejected flatly.

“I’m very busy lately. I don’t have time to babysit someone else’s child.”

That phrase-someone else’s-completely froze Amara’s smile.

With reddened eyes, she gently tugged at Emily’s sleeve, looking entirely aggrieved.

“Emily, in my heart, you’ve always been my future mother-in-law. If it hadn’t been for-”

Emily’s tone turned stern as she pulled her sleeve away,

“You and Hudson both have your own families now. Saying things like that will only cause misunderstandings and ruin your reputation. Don’t ever bring it up again.”

Realizing she had misstepped, Amara quickly put on a flustered expression and apologized.

“I’m so sorry, Emily. I’ve been abroad for so long, and seeing you just felt so familiar. I blurted it out without thinking. It won’t happen again.”

“Mm.”

Emily hummed dismissively before heading to the kitchen to find Rosa.
