Hudson’s jaw snapped shut.

“I never-”

“Hudson!”

John’s voice boomed from the distance.

Jade looked over. John was walking toward them from the chapel area, leaning on his cane.

She called out in a raspy voice.

“Grandpa…”

John looked at her and sighed, then came to a stop in front of Hudson.

“Come back inside with me.”

Hudson looked toward Jade.

“Did you hear that, Jade? Grandpa wants us back inside.”

“Hudson.”

John’s tone grew heavier.

“I was talking to you, not Jade.”

Hudson’s voice was full of disbelief.

“Grandpa?”

“Neither of you is calm enough to talk right now. Spend two days apart to cool off. We’ll discuss this then.”

John finished and began to walk away.

Hudson remained rooted to the spot. Seeing this, John snorted with annoyance.

“Lambert, drag him inside!”

Lambert Reed emerged from the corner and bowed to Hudson.

“Mr. Walter, please don’t make this difficult for me.”

Hudson’s face was a mask of tension as he looked at Jade, his eyes growing darker and deeper.

“Jade, are you really not coming back with me?”

Jade’s response was unshakable.

“No.”

Hudson let out a short, bitter laugh, a smirk tugging at his lips.

“Fine. Don’t regret this!” He turned and strode away.

Then, John looked toward her.

“Jade, spend these two days with your friend. Think clearly about the issues between you and Hudson. If you still feel the same in two days, come back and find me.”

Jade knew this was the best she could get from John. She nodded, her eyes rimmed with red.

“Thank you, Grandpa.”

If not for John, Hudson wouldn’t have let her leave so easily.

John didn’t say anything else. He gave her one final, deep look, then turned and left.

In the car.

Jade sat in the passenger seat. Jewell asked as she drove.

“Did you go to see Mr. John Walter to get him to help you with the divorce?”

She nodded. “Yes, but he said he needs to think about it.”

“Unbelievable.” Jewell’s voice was full of confusion.

“You’ve taken this all the way to his grandfather, and Hudson still won’t let you go? What is he thinking?”

Jade honestly didn’t know what was going on in Hudson’s head.

“He’s incredibly dominant. He’s used to controlling everything. Maybe me wanting a divorce makes him feel like he’s losing control, so he’s fighting it…”

And now she understood that his refusal to divorce wasn’t out of spite.

After all, his purpose in marrying her was just to annoy Amara…

“What a mess.”

Jewell shook her head and sighed.

“So, what’s the plan now?”

Jade had already decided.

“I’m moving out. I’m staying away from Hudson and Amara. Unless he’s talking about the divorce, I won’t see him again.”

“Exactly. Staying away is the right call.” Jewell’s brow was pinched.

“He’s so forceful he won’t listen to anything you say. Who knows what would happen if you stayed there?”

“Yeah.”

Jade completely agreed.

As for the fact that Hudson didn’t love her, she had gone from hope to absolute deadness.

Now, her heart was like a pool of stagnant water, unable to be stirred by anything he did.

Half an hour later.

Jade arrived at Jewell’s apartment.

Feeling a bit stifled, she took off her coat and scarf.

“Jade.”

Jewell’s fingers brushed Jade’s neck.

“What happened to your neck? It looks like someone grabbed you.”

Jade touched it. It was swollen, prickly with pain. She lowered her lashes.

“Hudson did.”

“What?”
