Amara sobbed until her eyes were swollen, clutching her chest as she choked out the words.
“Hudson, in my heart, you’ve always been your own man. No one could ever replace the position you hold for me.”
She lurched forward to throw herself into his arms, but Hudson stepped back, evading her touch as his brows knit into a deep, troubled scowl.
“Amara, do you even hear what you’re saying right now?”
“Of course I do.”
Amara’s tear-filled eyes bore into Hudson’s, the obsession in her gaze becoming impossible to mask.
“Hudson, you used to be in love with me, didn’t you? Why can’t we just start over?”
Hudson recalled her saying something similar before, but back then she’d excused it as grief- induced nonsense because she missed Ronald too much.
But now, she was bringing it up again with crystal clarity.
“Amara,” Hudson’s voice was lethal and cold.
“We are a dead chapter. Never bring up the past again.”
When they were young and naive, he admitted he’d had a crush on her and had done many impulsive things to compete with Ronald for her attention.
But ever since her return, based on every interaction they’d had.
He knew with absolute certainty that he felt only pity for her, not “passion.”
“A dead chapter?”
Amara wiped her tears, her voice suddenly spiking into a sharp, hysterical shriek.
“But you and Jade have zero feelings, yet you’ve stayed together for three years! Why can’t I be the one?”

Hudson countered, “The two situations are entirely different.”

“I asked you once if you only married her because she was submissive, and you admitted it yourself.”
Amara’s tone carried the reckless finality of someone with nothing left to lose.
“Since you don’t love her anyway, isn’t her wanting a divorce exactly what you wanted? Yet you’re dragging your feet. Tell me-have you actually fallen for her?”
Hudson didn’t give her the satisfaction of an answer, issuing his final ultimatum instead.
“I’ll have movers come later to pack your things. You and Cortney are moving out tomorrow morning.”
Amara gritted her teeth so hard they nearly snapped.
“Hudson, you’re heartless! I have my pride. Since you’ve gone this far, I won’t beg to stay where I’m not wanted. Fine-Cortney and I will be gone by dawn. Don’t bother with us ever again. Just let us rot on our own!”
Dropping those words like a curse, she straightened her spine and marched out to save the last shred of her dignity.
Hudson watched her retreating figure, his brow furrowing slightly before he summoned a bodyguard.
“Keep a close watch on her. Make sure she doesn’t do anything reckless.”
The guard nodded.
“Understood, sir.”
Inside the private hospital.
Amara watched the sleeping Cortney, pacing restlessly beside the hospital bed like a caged
animal.
She hadn’t expected this. After plotting for so long and being one step away from securing her place with Hudson, everything had collapsed in a single night.
Her time was running out; if she didn’t lock Hudson down soon, once the Faith family started digging into her secrets, she’d be facing a prison cell.

In this entire city, only Hudson had the power to protect her.
She had to cling to him like a drowning woman to a life raft!

But before that, she had to eliminate the Jade problem once and for all-that b*tch wasn’t going to ruin her plans.
Steeling her resolve, Amara went to the rooftop and dialed an unlisted number.
“Hire a private investigator to tail Jade Merchant. I need her location and movements in real- time.”
A slick, flirtatious male voice answered from the other end.
“Consider it done, baby.”
Amara exhaled sharply, and just as she was about to hang up, the voice spoke again.
“I miss you. I’m coming to see you in a couple of days.”
Amara blurted out instantly.
“Don’t you dare come here!”
The man let out a dark, mocking laugh.
“It’s been so long. Don’t you miss me? I certainly miss you-and our precious little girl.”
Amara bit her lip, the anxiety in her eyes deepening into a fever pitch.
