Niamh answered the call.
“…Jonathan?”
A soft chuckle came from the other end. “It’s me… Who else were you expecting?”
Jonathan’s voice was as calm and confident as ever. Niamh realized he definitely wasn’t being held captive by her grandfather.
“Where are you right now?”
“That’s a secret.”
His evasiveness made Niamh frown. “You skipped work for a full day. I’ll have HR process your termination tomorrow.” Her tone was sharp and final. She’d been wanting to cut ties with him anyway, and this was the perfect excuse.
Jonathan was silent for a moment. “Now’s not really the time to be firing me, is it?”
His words confirmed it: he already knew about the crisis at The Thomas Group.
“So, you called to kick me while I’m down?”
“Couldn’t I be calling to offer a lifeline?” Jonathan countered, making Niamh pause. Instead of going upstairs, she sat down on a nearby bench, deciding to patiently hear him out.
“The Thomas Group is embroiled in a major scandal and the stock has plummeted… You need to keep an eye on a company called Sarman Tech. It’s been continuously and covertly buying up stock from retail investors and small shareholders.”
“I’ve noticed them,” Niamh said. “They’re controlled by the EYSG Group, but EYSG is registered in the Cayman Islands, so I can’t see its shareholding structure.”
