A radiant smile bloomed on Niamh’s beautiful face.
“From now on… I'm done compromising.”
With that, Niamh turned and walked away.
Elmer watched her silhouette as she got into her car, a profound sense of loss settling in his heart.
His fingers twitched, closing on empty air.
“What am I supposed to do?” he murmured to himself, the question escaping his lips involuntarily. “What on earth can I do to keep you in my grasp?”
It was a question Elmer couldn’t answer in high school, and all these years later, he was still just as lost.
By the time the deep gray Koenigsegg pulled up to the grand entrance of The Gilded Gryphon, the private room was already occupied by a new party of diners.
Jonathan had missed her again.
This time, he couldn't hold back any longer and dialed Niamh’s number, only to find that she had blocked him.
Dalesburg, Ocean Heart Art Center.
The annual Crown Jewel Forum was underway.
Niamh was in attendance as the master designer BYC, seated at the center table in the front row.
“Do you all see this? AI’s learning speed is something humans simply can't match. For all you designers present, AI can replicate your design styles and works in a matter of minutes. Yet you might rack your brains for months, only to produce something that doesn't even represent the tip of the iceberg of what AI can design.”
“Please, look at the designer beside me…” Sutton gestured to the young woman at his side. “Laurel Magda, a contemporary rising star. She uses our company's AI for her jewelry design. All she has to do is input her design concept, and within minutes, the AI generates drafts that meet her specifications. This is what we call cutting-edge, what we call high-tech.”
Just as Sutton finished, a single scoff echoed from the audience.
His face instantly soured.
“Master BYC—or perhaps I should call you Ms. Rivers! Do you have a question or an objection to my presentation?”
Instantly, all eyes in the room turned to Niamh, including those of Jonathan, who hadn’t been invited to the forum and was leaning against a side door in a shadowy corner.
