No… Jonathan had been the one to take it from her.
And now, when she no longer loved him, she was carrying his child.
“What kind of sick joke is this…” Niamh muttered, a bitter taste filling her mouth.
“Nia…”
Just then, the door opened, and Lana and Elmer walked in.
Niamh had called Lana after she woke up. Lana had first contacted the nurses’ station to find out Niamh was awake.
Originally, both Lana and Elmer had been keeping vigil at the hospital. But before Niamh regained consciousness, they had been summoned to the police station.
The investigation confirmed that the brakes on Niamh’s car had been tampered with, so everyone and every company involved in the street race had to be questioned.
Ramona was naturally the primary suspect. But since she was from Coralis and had a powerful, intricate network of connections, the police couldn’t jump to conclusions.
Lana and Elmer had been brought in to assist with the investigation.
Niamh was actually relieved that Lana and Elmer hadn’t been there earlier; otherwise, she probably wouldn’t have been able to hide her pregnancy from them.
For now, she didn’t want to tell anyone. She hadn’t made up her mind yet. She wasn’t sure if she would keep this child.
Once, she had wanted a child so desperately. She had wanted to have Jonathan’s child.
But now…
“Nia? Nia!”
Niamh snapped back to reality.
“What?” She looked up at a bewildered Lana.
“What were you so lost in thought about?”
“Oh… it’s nothing…” Niamh shook her head.
“Nia’s just recovered herself. There’s no rush to visit him. The most important thing is to focus on your own health,” Elmer said, changing the subject. He then tugged on Lana’s arm. “Lana, let’s go out and buy some fruit.”
“Can’t we just have some delivered?”
“It won’t be as fresh.”
“What are you talking about? It’s fine, I have a few shops I always order from… Hey, Elmer, why are you pulling me? What’s going on? Wait…”
Protesting, Lana was dragged out of the room by Elmer.
The room was now empty, leaving Niamh alone.
But not for long.
After preparing herself and going through the ICU’s strict visitation procedures, Niamh appeared silently beside Jonathan’s bed.
Lying there, he was hooked up to countless tubes.
