“Impossible!” Marianne shrieked, as if someone had stepped on her tail. “She’s just a country girl we brought back from the slums! Her biological parents were nobodies from the ghetto. How could she have that kind of power?”

Marianne let out a cold laugh. “Ever since you came back from the hospital, you’ve been rambling about being wrong, all wrong, saying Serena knows medicine and is some kind of master doctor. I think you’ve just gone crazy from working nonstop!”

“I know exactly what Serena is capable of, and it isn’t much! If she really had that kind of ability, she would have shown it off long ago, desperate for us to give her a second glance!”

Logan looked up weakly. “But… but how could it be such a coincidence…?”

“It only proves that Serena is a jinx! A curse on all of us!” Marianne cut him off, grinding her teeth. “It’s because you ran into that damn girl that we’ve had such bad luck!”
