Anna was a spoiled heiress who saw the world in black and white.
She didn't like Serena, and that was that.
Everything about the other girl simply rubbed her the wrong way.
"Oh?" Douglas let out a soft scoff, his dark gaze sweeping over them coolly. "Why don't we let Dr. Baldur tell you if this is Isabella's fault?"
Even though Douglas was Kiera's youngest son, he had spent years running in dangerous circles. The aura he carried was absolutely terrifying.
Anna had always been terrified of him.
Hearing him speak, Anna's face paled slightly. She subconsciously looked over at Dr. Baldur, her grandmother's attending physician.
"What do you mean? Dr. Baldur and Isabella..."
Before she could even finish, Dr. Baldur flushed with utter humiliation. "I was too narrow-minded. Miss Lancaster is completely right to teach me a lesson..."
With that, he practically tucked his tail between his legs and fled the scene.
Anna was stunned.
What exactly was going on?
Dr. Baldur was a top-tier cardiology expert. He usually walked around with his nose in the air, looking down on everyone.
Even if her father came in person, Baldur rarely gave him the time of day.
Yet now he was bowing and scraping to a small-town girl? And running away like a coward?
Leaning into her malicious speculation, she turned to Kiera. "Grandma, think carefully. Did you eat or drink anything a stranger gave you right before your attack?"
The implication was incredibly heavy.
She was practically pointing right at Serena's forehead, clearly accusing her of causing Kiera's medical emergency.
Accusing her of directing and starring in her own little play.
Hearing this, Kiera's expression soured immediately.
This wasn't just an insult to the girl who saved her life, her own biological granddaughter... it was an insult to the intelligence of a seventy-year-old woman!
"Nonsense! What kind of rubbish are you spewing?" Furious, Kiera snatched a financial magazine off the table and hurled it hard at Anna without a second thought. "This is Serena! She is my flesh and blood, and she saved my life! If you dare slander her one more time, get the hell out of here!"
