The prestigious experts stared through the monitor at the unbelievably arrogant yet chillingly calm young woman in the ER.
A chorus of outraged, mocking laughter echoed through the comms.
"You dare? You have confidence? Are you out of your mind? Do you have any idea what level of complexity this procedure demands?" one of the specialists sneered, his face twisted in utter contempt. "Have you ever even held a surgical knife in a real OR? This is a human life, little girl, not some twisted game of operation!"
Professor Sterling's face was thunderous as he leaned into the microphone. "I am a leading professor of the International Cardio-Cerebral Association. Mr. White came to me countless times with Mr. Vinton's charts, practically begging me to step in and co-pilot this surgery."
"Based on his original vitals, even with Mr. White and I working in perfect tandem, the success rate was barely thirty percent! But now? Now the patient's vitals have completely crashed, and Mr. White is incapacitated. Proceeding with this surgery is medically impossible!"
"Little girl, I understand you're desperate to save a family member, but this is not the time to play the hero. Stop this nonsense immediately and give us a moment. We will formulate a conservative treatment plan to stabilize him and keep him alive!"
Professor Sterling was undoubtedly the heavyweight in the room.
The other experts instantly murmured in aggressive agreement. "Exactly! Professor Sterling is entirely correct. The patient is far too critical to survive an invasive procedure."
"If word gets out that we stood back and let a teenage girl from Elyndor butcher a patient right in front of us, our professional reputations will be completely destroyed!"
"We need to start pulling strings with other top-tier hospitals right now to see if anyone is insane enough to take this case off our hands..."
...
As the chorus of panicked excuses dragged on.
Serena's face hardened into a mask of pure ice.
Was this the standard for so-called medical authorities these days?
Sensing the chaos, Anna saw her golden opportunity. She lunged forward, yelling at the screen, "I'm his biological granddaughter! You can't let her operate! She's using this as an excuse to murder him so she can steal our family's shares!"
"If you top international experts are saying it can't be done, what right does she have to touch him? My grandfather was fine until she tampered with his treatments! He's dying right now because of her! She's just trying to slice him open to destroy the evidence!"
The specialists blanched, their anxiety skyrocketing as they stared helplessly into the ER feed.
"Anna!" Douglas practically materialized beside her, his hand clamping down on her arm like a vice as he violently yanked her backward. "Say one more word. I dare you."
Anna shrieked, instantly recoiling in terror and snapping her mouth shut.
Douglas lifted his gaze, his eyes burning with a dark, lethal intensity toward the screen. "I am the patient's son. I am giving my niece full authorization to operate on my father. Every single thing she asks for, you do it!"
"Mr. Vinton!" Professor Sterling was appalled. He couldn't believe this entire family had lost their minds. "I am the vice president of the International Cardio-Cerebral Association. If I don't even have the confidence to open him up, what makes her qualified? You are his son, and you're just going to let this little girl play butcher? How old is she? She can't even be twenty! And you're handing her the scalpel?"
