Dr. Arthur Smith?
Hadn't Serena just dropped that exact name?
Douglas opened his mouth to clarify the situation.
But his ruthlessly efficient brother immediately cut him off again. "Do not proceed until Dr. Smith is in the room! That's an order. I am almost there. You just need to keep things under control until I arrive."
With that, the call abruptly ended.
Feeling like he had just been handed a loaded weapon, Professor Sterling straightened up, his voice dripping with arrogant vindication. "You heard your brother, Douglas! He managed to invite the real Dr. Smith!"
"We need to stand down and wait for Dr. Smith to take over!"
"Dr. Smith will be here any second! Order them to step away from the table! Stop the surgery!"
Douglas's brow furrowed tightly.
He knew his older brother was a rigid, uncompromising traditionalist. Silas had no idea what Serena was truly capable of, so his reaction was entirely expected.
But right now...
"A general on the battlefield doesn't always have to obey the king's orders."
Douglas's expression remained colder than ice. "When my brother gets here, I will handle the fallout. But right now, the first person who tries to stop my niece gets a bullet."
Professor Sterling was floored. Even with the patriarch of the family directly stepping in, Douglas was still fully prepared to lead the charge in letting this little girl play doctor.
Sterling was seething with frustration. "Douglas, you... you are being completely manipulated by this girl!"
"Do you honestly believe she possesses the skill to operate on your father? Do you truly think she has the kind of power to summon those legends of the medical world?"
"The names she just rattled off... it is absolute, verifiable proof that she is lying through her teeth!"
The rest of his team chimed in, equally incensed. "Exactly! If she genuinely had the power to summon those titans—men we could never even dream of meeting—we would personally walk into that ER and bow at her feet!"
The moment the challenge left their lips.
A rapid, thunderous cadence of approaching footsteps echoed down the hallway.
It was accompanied by a chaotic murmur of urgent voices.
A massive group of people was practically sprinting toward the ER.
