Serena asked, "The hosts are the Doyle family?"
"Yeah," Mr. Harrison said, clearly surprised. "You knew? The Doyle family has risen rapidly in recent years, supposedly backed by offshore capital. Of course, that has nothing to do with our institute. Just keep a low profile, grab the item, and leave. Our Oracle, we're counting on you!"
After hanging up, Serena returned to her family.
"Serena, did Mr. Harrison need something?" Old Mr. Lancaster asked. He knew his granddaughter was a lifeline for the national research institute; they called her whenever there was an emergency.
"It's nothing major. He just wants me to attend an auction and bid on something for them." She paused. "Can I have an invitation to tonight's Doyle family auction?"
Old Mr. Lancaster frowned. "The Doyle family? You mean the ones who have been making waves lately?"
Serena nodded.
"They sent an invitation a while ago, but I heard from Julian... this Doyle family is backed by foreign money, and we didn't plan on associating with them." The old man thought for a moment. "Ask Julian about the invitation."
"Alright," Serena said.
She called Julian Lancaster.
He promised to have the invitation delivered to the estate shortly, but his tone made his disdain for the Doyle family obvious.
