Marcus Doyle reeled off a long list of medicinal herbs, each one incredibly rare, and many of them were names they had never even heard of before.
Their value was unimaginable.
Then, stroking his beard, he maintained the air of a reclusive master. “With these herbs, combined with my unique and secret technique to unblock the meridians and extend life, and supplemented by a special medicinal bath I’ve formulated to nourish the body, given time… there is hope that he can stand again.”
He slowly opened his eyes as he spoke. “However, the course of treatment… is quite long, and the consumption of herbs will be immense. As for the financial aspect…”
Isabella’s eyes lit up. She quickly and eagerly cut in, “Hope is all we need, Mr. Doyle! Whatever herbs or materials you require, just name them. The Lancaster family is the wealthiest in Vaelion City. It doesn’t matter how expensive or hard to find they are, or how much it costs! As long as you can cure Grandpa… I have a lot of personal savings from over the years, I can contribute all of it!”
Her display of devotion was heartfelt and deeply moving.
As Isabella spoke, she couldn’t help but feel a little smug.
See that?
She, Isabella, was the most devoted granddaughter. Grandpa would surely be touched by her sincerity.
Not like Serena…
All that bragging and showing off. It was probably just because she couldn’t afford to pay for anything and was just trying to win Grandpa’s favor with empty words.
However, Old Mr. Lancaster’s face showed no trace of the joyful surprise one might expect from hearing there was hope for his legs.
Especially after hearing the names of the herbs Marcus Doyle listed…
His brow furrowed deeply.
He had consulted countless famous doctors over the years, both top traditional and modern specialists from home and abroad, and all of them had been helpless regarding his legs.
Marcus Doyle’s face darkened. “You insolent brat, how I choose to treat my patients is my trade secret. It’s not for an outsider like you to know.”
“Serena, if Mr. Doyle says there’s hope, then there must be. Are you suggesting that the renowned Dr. Marcus Doyle would lie to us?” Isabella said, forcing down her annoyance.
She knew it. Serena wouldn’t cooperate so easily and let Mr. Doyle help Grandpa.
Serena just wanted to steal the spotlight!
The moment she heard Mr. Doyle could cure Grandpa, Serena panicked, afraid she wouldn’t be able to use her act to impress and deceive him anymore.
She pressed her lips together. “Serena, Mr. Doyle’s reputation is known throughout Vaelion City. His family has been practicing medicine for three generations. You can’t just obstruct him because he exposed you… or because he can actually help Grandpa. Weren’t we both just trying to get Grandpa better?”
She corrected herself as if she had misspoken, a clumsy attempt to hide her true intentions while clearly implying Serena had ulterior motives for interfering.
