“I have to tell him!”
Naomi did not even realize that her steps were growing faster. The dark blue dress she wore swayed with her hurried pace while countless thoughts collided inside her head.
Brandon Oswell was Don Falcon’s younger brother? Good heavens! How could this happen and... why was Chris so calm when he told her? The more she thought about that fact, the harder it became for her to stay calm.
Perhaps it was because Falcon had always appeared alongside trouble, threats, and a suffocating sense of unease that made it hard for her to breathe. And now she had just learned that the man who had been casually talking with Cale all this time was actually related by blood to that person.
Chris, walking behind her, could only shake his head lightly. “Naomi.”
“Can we talk later?”
The man let out a quiet sigh.
“I still have something more important to deal with. And you,” Naomi slowed down, turned, and fixed Chris with a sharp stare. “You already knew about this, so why do you look so relaxed about it?!”
Chris had just opened his mouth when Naomi spotted the person she had been looking for.
Cale.
The man was speaking with several guests near one of the grand windows in the hall. Lydia stood not far from him, responding to a conversation with several members of the Devereux family.
Naomi immediately headed over without slowing her pace. “Mr. Cale.”
Cale turned.
Before the man could say anything, Naomi had already grabbed the sleeve of his suit.
“I need to talk to you.”
Cale’s eyebrows immediately rose as he looked at Naomi in confusion. “Right now?”
“Right now.”
“But I’m in the middle of—”
“Right now,” Naomi said firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Several guests standing around them exchanged glances. Not many people dared interrupt a conversation with Cale Miller like that. And perhaps Naomi was the only person in this room who would do it without even realizing it.
“It seems I should immediately give in to this young lady’s wishes.”
One of the guests speaking with Cale smiled knowingly. “Please, Mr. Kai. We completely understand if Miss Devereux needs you.”
Cale laughed. “I’m starting to feel like I’m raising a little girl—”
“Mr. Cale.”
“All right, all right.”
Naomi paid no attention to the protest at all. She continued pulling the man away from the crowd until they stopped near the balcony beside the hall. The moment she was certain no one was close enough to overhear them, Naomi immediately turned around.
“Do you know who Brandon is?”
Cale blinked in confusion. “What do you mean by that question?”
Naomi rolled her eyes in annoyance. “Come on, Mr. Cale. Can you be serious?”
“I don't understand where this question is going.”
“Don't joke around.” Naomi folded her arms across her chest. Her sharp gaze was fixed on Cale.
