A chill ran down everyone's spine.
"Mr. Sinclair is right. From now on, if anyone in this house dares to say a single bad word about Elena, they can get the hell out of the Whelan family!" the old woman snapped at the room.
Everyone lowered their heads, staying silent. The atmosphere was incredibly awkward.
"Mrs. Whelan, I came here today to discuss something with you. After all, you are Elena's elder and the head of the Whelan household," Dylan said to the old woman.
Seeing Dylan so serious, the old woman thought to herself, *Is he here to call off the engagement? Otherwise, what major event would require such a formal conversation?*
"Please speak, Mr. Sinclair!"
"It's like this. My father has already selected a date for Elena and me to get engaged. It will be at the end of this year. I came here specifically to inform you."
The old woman couldn't believe her ears. "You... are you telling the truth?"
"Of course. My father personally selected the lucky date."
The relatives from the second and third branches looked grim.
Especially Cathy.
She had assumed Elena was being discarded by the Sinclairs. Who could have known that the news would be about their upcoming engagement?
Were the rumors outside all false?
That Miss Bennett was leagues ahead of Elena—why didn't Dylan like her?
Once Elena married into the Sinclair family, she would become the golden goose the grandmother always talked about. There would be no place left for Cathy.
