Isabella wiped her tears. "I wanted to! But my aunt forced me to go abroad back then. I didn't have a choice."
Amelia didn't see it that way.
"Isabella, that's just an excuse. If you had truly insisted on staying by Dylan's side, neither Lady Amber nor my father could have stopped you. Ultimately, you just couldn't make the commitment. On the other hand, Miss Whelan met Dylan during his darkest times, stayed by his side, and never gave up on him. That's why Dylan is who he is today. Of course she holds a crucial place in his heart. Besides, the most important thing in a relationship is mutual affection. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?"
Isabella was rendered completely speechless.
She secretly clenched her fists. What was Amelia playing at? Was she questioning her loyalty?
"If that's what you want to think, there's nothing I can do about it!" Isabella snapped, turning on her heel and storming off.
Amelia shook her head. Coming back this time, she felt like Isabella had turned into a completely different person.

Elena and Dylan arrived at Scarlett Sinclair's quarters.
The sound of an argument immediately reached their ears.
"Mom, I don't get it. Why are you making me resign? I'm doing great at the company, my career is taking off, and yet you want me to leave!" Evelyn demanded in frustration.
"Evelyn, I'm doing this for your own good. You shouldn't be getting mixed up in corporate affairs. Wouldn't it be better to just enjoy your life as a wealthy heiress?"
"No! You're always so cowardly, always so useless! How did I end up with a mother like you? Even though Patricia and Amber are domineering, there are times I truly wish I were their daughter. Mom, I am so disappointed in you. I'm ashamed to have you as my mother!" Evelyn could no longer control her temper.
Anna quickly intervened. "Evelyn, how could you speak to Scarlett like that? She is only looking out for you."
"Oh, please! It's always 'for my own good,' right? And what's the result? Our side of the family gets trampled on, and I can't even hold my head high! If I hadn't been strong all these years, we probably would've been kicked out onto the streets by now!"
Elena glanced at Dylan, unsure if they should interrupt.
"Dylan, Miss Whelan, you're here!" Anna had a sharp eye and spotted them at the door.
"It's no trouble at all. Just have Dylan let me know when you run out."
Watching their harmonious exchange, Evelyn let out a cold scoff and stormed out of the room.
Scarlett watched her leave and let out a heavy sigh.
She turned to Dylan. "Dylan, if Evelyn makes any mistakes at the company, please don't be lenient. Just send her home. She's not cut out for the corporate world."
"Understood," Dylan agreed.
After leaving Scarlett's quarters, Elena felt deeply perplexed.
"Why is Scarlett so against Evelyn working at the company? Isn't it a good thing for her side of the family to have a foothold in the business?"
"I really don't know," Dylan replied. "For as long as I can remember, Scarlett has always kept an incredibly low profile. She never fights for power or attention in the family, and she flat out refuses to let her children work at the company. If it weren't for her constant interference, Evelyn would probably be a top executive by now. With her abilities, she's more than qualified to sit in the CEO's chair."
