"No... no, of course not, Mr. Maddox. I was just... I was just curious today."
"Curious? About what?"
Jane kept her head bowed, too paralyzed with fear to form a coherent sentence.
"I told you to speak!" Sean's voice cracked like a whip, making Jane jolt violently.
"I... I will! I thought... I thought you were hiding a man here. Someone you were romantically involved with. I just wanted to see."
"A man?" Sean's brow furrowed in genuine disbelief.
He truly hadn't expected anyone to actually believe the ridiculous rumor that he preferred men.
"And who exactly told you I like men?"
"I... I don't know."
"Since you're so utterly convinced I'm hiding a male lover, and since you're so undeniably curious... go inside and take a look for yourself."
Jane's stomach dropped. She couldn't read him at all. What game was he playing?
Was he really being this accommodating?
"Go on! Step inside! You wanted to see, didn't you? Let's satisfy that curiosity of yours!"
Trembling from head to toe, Jane slowly edged toward the doorway, her heart in her throat.
If she had known Sean would be this terrifyingly furious, she never would have followed him.
She peeked into the room—and the breath completely left her lungs.
A man was lying broken on the floor, surrounded by an enormous, horrifying pool of blood and gore.
The scene was an absolute slaughterhouse.
Her knees gave out, and she fell back onto the floor, choking on a terrified scream.
She scrambled backward on her hands and knees, scrambling wildly to get away.
"Mr. Maddox, I'm not looking anymore! I swear I'll never follow you again! I'm sorry..." Jane sobbed uncontrollably, shaking like a leaf.
"Get the hell out of here," Sean commanded, his voice cold and devoid of mercy.
Jane bolted down the hall like her life depended on it.
She had never, in her wildest nightmares, imagined that the gentle, refined Sean Maddox harbored such a ruthlessly bloodthirsty side.
To torture a man to that extent... it was terrifying.
"Mr. Maddox, what should we do with the body inside?" Warren stepped up to ask.
