Death was so close she could almost taste it.
Watching the armed thugs advance on her, Elena felt no fear. She was just exhausted. She wanted to sleep.
In her delirious haze, a chaotic scene unfolded before her. A second group of armed figures suddenly swarmed the area, clashing violently with her attackers. The world dissolved into a cacophony of gunfire and shouting, the silhouettes blurring into a senseless mess.
Her shattered body finally gave out. She closed her eyes and surrendered to the darkness.
Time lost all meaning. Elena found herself trapped in a vivid fever dream. She was back with the Northmoon clan, fighting alongside her people through countless life-and-death struggles. Back then, Sirius had been her loyal subordinate, a tough-as-nails warrior. She didn't know when the betrayal had taken root, turning him into a monster who would slaughter his own kin. Even in her dreams, she wanted to rip his throat out.
Meanwhile, Dylan Sinclair finally tracked down Logan Hughes.
"Do you know where Elena is?" Dylan demanded. "I haven't been able to reach her for days, and the Whelan family has no idea either."
"Boss has been relentlessly hunting Michelle Turner," Logan replied, equally bewildered. "Could her disappearance be connected to Michelle?"
They had spent the last few days turning the city upside down looking for Michelle, but had found nothing. Now, Elena was missing too.
George Miller hurried over, his expression grim. "Dylan, I found a lead. Miss Whelan boarded a private flight to a winery in Falveria."
"Falveria?!" Logan gasped in horror.
Having operated in Falveria himself, he knew exactly what that meant. It was a war-torn sanctuary for global mercenary factions, a place where blood was currency. It was also Sirius's stronghold.
"What's wrong?" Dylan pressed, his jaw tightening.
"This is bad. Boss must have gone after Sirius. Michelle's disappearance is definitely tied to him!"
"Then we leave for Falveria immediately!"
Dylan and Logan arrived at the Falverian winery hours later, only to find it completely abandoned. The estate had been hastily sold off to a new owner who knew absolutely nothing about the recent bloodshed.
