Gregory sensed Soren's mood and was about to suggest something, but Soren was already striding out the door.

He walked briskly in the direction Evangeline had gone.

He stepped forward and saw Evangeline sitting by the hospital bed, her back to the door. She held a small bowl of steaming hot soup that she had just bought.

In her other hand, she held a spoon.

She brought the spoon to her lips, gently blowing on the soup to cool it before bringing it to Finn’s mouth.

Even with just her back to him, Soren could picture the smile on her face from the tone of her voice.

Finn looked up and saw Soren at the door. He raised an eyebrow and greeted him. “Is there something you need?”

Only then did Evangeline turn around. When she saw him, her expression reverted to the quiet composure she had maintained for months.

It was as if the cheerful girl from moments ago had been a figment of his imagination.
