She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 704

The afternoon sun was perfect, and the ocean breeze carried a refreshing coolness.

Lucian had promised to catch a fish for Loyce. After their morning activities, he set up a camping lounge chair on the beach, carried her out, and got her settled. He even placed a bottle of water and a sandwich in her hands.

When Loyce saw him actually walk into the tree line to gather branches and start whittling, she couldn't help but laugh when a makeshift three-pronged spear began to take shape. "Are you seriously going to spearfish for me?"

"Yeah," Lucian nodded, completely serious.

It made his rugged, handsome face look surprisingly boyish in that moment.

Loyce thought he was just tapping into some inner child fantasy, but to her surprise, he actually managed to spear a fish in the shallows with that crude, handmade tool.

When he emerged, dripping wet, holding up a thrashing fish on the end of his spear, a wild, unrestrained smile broke out across his face. "Loyce! Look!"

Loyce thought he was incredibly endearing.

And when she finally tasted the fresh, delicious catch, she decided he was both impressive and endearing.

In this private world that belonged entirely to them, she walked along the beach and into the forest, playing the role of an explorer while educating Lucian, who trailed behind her, about the various plants in the jungle.

She even agilely scrambled up a tree to pluck some wild berries, dropping them into Lucian's hands, leaving the man absolutely stunned that she could climb trees.

"You're like a monkey," he said, awe in his voice. "How do you climb so fast?"

"It's about technique and body weight. Someone who's overly muscular and heavy actually has a disadvantage compared to someone smaller and lighter."

Loyce picked up a few of the berries to give him a lesson. Lucian looked at the one she held up and played along: "Looks delicious."

"Don't let the bright color fool you, even if it looks as pretty as a ruby." She pinched the plump, seductive red berry between her fingers. "It's called a Siren's Kiss Berry. It contains a mild neurotoxin. If you eat too many, it causes hallucinations and numbness in your limbs. In severe cases, it can even put you in a coma."

Hearing this, Lucian immediately tossed a similar berry he was holding.

Loyce chuckled and picked up another berry—this one plain, with rough, dark brown skin. "Now this one, which looks dry and ugly, is called a Grit-Thorn Berry, and it's a lifesaver." She easily cracked open the hard shell with her fingers, revealing amber-like flesh inside. "It's packed with vitamins. It's sweet and sour, quenches your thirst, and restores your energy. In the wild, it's the ultimate survival food."

She offered the fruit to Lucian's lips. "Want to try?"
