She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 749

The kinetic shockwave of the high-velocity round completely shattered the structural integrity of his knee. Blinding agony hijacked his nervous system. His vision went black, his ears ringing with a high-pitched whine as his body violently collapsed backward.

The rifle slipped from his grasp. His leg was twisted at a sickening, unnatural angle, arterial blood geysering onto the muddy moss.

Sigrid, having narrowly escaped death because he pulled her out of the firing line, sat frozen in the dirt. She stared at the man convulsing on the ground, horrified by the sheer volume of blood pouring from his pulverized joint.

He had just thrown himself in front of a bullet for her.

But her shock only lasted a fraction of a second. As the enemy squad closed the net, cold logic instantly overrode her emotions.

"We're trapped!" Blood Wolf roared from the tree line.

Sigrid looked at the encroaching soldiers, then down at Lucian. Her eyes calculated the brutal math of the situation.

His leg was completely destroyed. He was going to be permanently crippled.

And what good was a cripple? His value as a tactical asset and a symbol of strength was gone. Her father would never allow a disabled man to stand beside her as the King of Stellar Trust.

Yes, he had just saved her life. But he had zero ambition, he refused to submit to her authority, and now he was broken. His net worth had just dropped to zero.

In a split second, she made her choice.

Just as Blood Wolf prepared to make a suicidal charge to drag Lucian to safety, Sigrid stood up.

She raised her hands high in the air and stepped out from behind the boulder.

"Hold your fire!" she screamed. "I am Sigrid, Princess of Stellar Trust! I'm trading him to you!"

The commandos instantly lowered their weapons. Their commander stepped out from the shadows, signaling for a total ceasefire.

The name Stellar Trust carried god-like weight on the global stage. This commander, recently promoted after the death of the previous officer, actually managed a black-money portfolio through one of Stellar Trust's shell companies. He had seen Sigrid once at a gala.

He hadn't expected her to be the one funding this suicide rescue. He eyed her suspiciously. "Why would the Princess of Stellar Trust risk her life for a Harmony Country admiral?"

She looked down at Lucian, who was bleeding out in the mud, her voice stripped of all humanity. "Internal corporate affairs. No comment. He's crippled now. He is completely useless to my organization. He's yours. In exchange, my men and I walk away untouched."
