She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 843

The moment Lucian set his sights on Nathan, his entire demeanor shifted.

Sigrid was the first to notice.

Instead of the cold, strictly-business attitude he had maintained for months, Lucian began actively seeking her out.

He started dropping by her office with gourmet lunches. He managed to 'bump into' her right as she was leaving for the day. He even brought her perfectly warmed milk when she worked late into the night.

Sigrid was practically floating.

She thought her patience had finally melted the iceberg. She genuinely believed he was embracing their relationship. After all, what woman wouldn't fall for a ruthlessly handsome, powerful man who had literally sacrificed his own leg to save her life?

What she didn't know was that every single time Lucian showed up, it was perfectly timed to intercept Nathan.

During a strategy meeting, Lucian did something unprecedented. With Nathan sitting right across the table, he draped his arm casually over the back of Sigrid's chair, leaning in close to whisper in her ear. It was a flawless display of intimacy.

Sigrid beamed, leaning into his touch, painting the perfect picture of a wildly in-love couple.

Nathan gripped his silver pen so hard his knuckles turned white.

He had never seen Lucian act this way. He tried to convince himself that Sigrid was merely using the man for status.

But then came the incident in the executive corridor. Lucian 'just happened' to arrive to take Sigrid to dinner, right as Nathan was walking up to her door to 'report on a project.'

"Director Huxley, whatever it is, it can wait until tomorrow," Lucian said smoothly, wrapping a possessive arm around Sigrid's shoulders. "I'm taking her to the movies tonight."

Sigrid looked up at him, her eyes shining. It was the first time he had ever initiated a date.

"It's highly time-sensitive work," Nathan pushed, his jaw tight.

Sigrid immediately snapped at him, her tone dripping with annoyance. "Put it off. Just go home, Nathan."

Nathan stood frozen in the hallway, watching them walk away together. The forced smile on his face slowly cracked and fell away.

But the true psychological warfare was only just beginning.

With Sigrid completely under his spell, she gladly allowed Lucian to start dipping his hands into the Business Department's core operations.

At first, it was just minor, peripheral accounts. Nathan didn't think much of it.

Then, the bleed started. The massive, multi-million-dollar clients Nathan had spent the better part of a year courting—deals he was inches away from closing—were suddenly transferred to Lucian's desk.

"My department has been nurturing this account for ten months," Nathan said, fighting to keep his voice steady as he marched into Lucian's office.

Lucian was signing a document. He didn't even bother to look up. "Mr. Sterling wants me familiarizing myself with our core demographics. These clients are good practice."

"But this is—"

"Nathan." Lucian finally lifted his gaze. His eyes were as dark and calm as deep water. "There is no 'yours' and 'mine' at Stellar Trust. We're all working for the good of the empire, aren't we?"
