"What are you looking at?" Bennett asked.
"Nicola used to be so well-behaved and sensible. It's only been a short time, but she seems to have changed so much," Yvonne sighed.
"She's only a few years old. A child that age is easily influenced by the adults around them; they become whatever they're taught to be," Bennett said calmly.
Before, when Noah and Karina were still married, Nicola spent more time with her mother, but Noah would still make time to be with and guide his daughter every day. Back then, Karina was still Mrs. Thompson, her mindset was relatively stable, and she wouldn't have led the child astray.
Now, Noah and Karina were divorced, and he had remarried. He didn't have as much time and energy for Nicola. Meanwhile, Karina's mental state had become unbalanced after the divorce. With the deliberate manipulation from the White family, Nicola was slowly being corrupted.
In truth, this outcome was predictable the moment Noah and Karina divorced and custody of Nicola was granted to Karina.
Noah had insisted on getting custody precisely because he feared the White family would corrupt Nicola. But Dana had made the final decision, and Noah had to give in.
Dana appeared gentle and even-tempered, but she was in fact the most rational, calm, and even cold-hearted of them all. To rid herself of the White family, she was willing to give up her granddaughter, Nicola.
When Nicola chose to stay with her mother, Dana had no sympathy for a child too young to make the right choice. In Dana's eyes, if you make a choice, you must accept the consequences.
Noah was still young and could have other children after remarrying. Dana would have other grandchildren in the future, so sacrificing Nicola was no great loss.
"Noah really does dote on Nicola, though," Yvonne added.
Noah had always showered Nicola with affection. After the divorce, he felt guilty and became even more indulgent. Otherwise, he wouldn't have lost his composure and disregarded Cynthia's feelings when Nicola got hurt.
"Cynthia didn't look well. If Nicola keeps acting out, instigated by the White family like this, I'm afraid Noah's marriage will run into trouble," Yvonne said worriedly.
Having married into the Thompson family, Yvonne naturally hoped for stability within it.
