Damian, who had been anxiously watching his phone, stopped moving.
A cold gust of wind seemed to pass by.
Maddox, carrying a set of men's clothes, led Damian to Sienna's room.
Sienna's suite had two bedrooms and a living area with its own bathroom. Blaze was currently changing in one of the bedrooms.
Isabelle's hair was half-dry. She was curled up on a sofa, wrapped in a blanket, sipping a hot toddy, her face devoid of color.
Sienna and Maddox sat on another sofa.
Isabelle and Damian's eyes met. She lowered her head, unsure what to say.
This is a huge misunderstanding.
Damian walked over, sat down beside her, and wrapped his arm around her through the blanket. "Are you okay?"
She nodded slightly, taking a big gulp of the hot toddy. Her cheeks flushed pink.
With so many people here, isn't he being a bit too bold?
This is so awkward.
Maddox didn't know where to look.
He gripped the fabric of his pants over his knees, feeling uneasy.
"You know Ms. Foster isn't his kept woman, right?" Maddox whispered to Sienna.
"Grandpa asked you to receive Mr. Cross and his wife. Who told you she was a kept woman?" Sienna retorted with a scoff.
How can he be so clueless?
How did he even become a director?
So rigid and lacking emotional intelligence—typical of most military men.
"I never heard that the president of Cypher Group was married." Maddox was anxious.
Sienna shook her head, too exasperated to argue. She explained to Damian, "Mr. Wilder brought her back. I happened to be returning to my room when they arrived. Nothing happened between them."
Damian wasn't stupid; he could see that.
Sienna and Blaze knew each other. Though not close, they both had a favorable impression of Isabelle. Seeing her in trouble, they naturally helped.
Blaze initially didn't want to invite gossip.
I hadn't known Isabelle and Damian were married. What I said to her that night makes me seem like a real jerk now.
Blaze, having changed, walked out of the room, ruffling his damp hair. "Mrs. Cross, my apologies for any impropriety."
Isabelle said, "It's fine. I should thank you."
Blaze turned to Damian. "Mr. Cross, my apologies."
Damian gave him a look. "Thank you."
Blaze nodded. "No problem."
An awkward silence settled over the group on the sofas.
"The person who pushed her was the maid accompanying Ms. Vale. I just happened to be passing by," Blaze explained.
It was Aurora.
Now it all made sense.
Sienna pressed her lips together. "Your situation is cleared up, but Mr. Wilder and I..."
The two women who witnessed the scene were notorious gossips.
I don't see how we're a match.
That was just a strategic move.
"I'm not angry," Damian said.
That's not what I'm angry about.
Isabelle giggled and pinched his cheek. "Not angry? Look how puffed up your cheeks are!"
Her fingers felt soft and tingly against his skin, almost flirtatious. "And you're blushing. What are you picturing in your head?"
Damian carried her to the back seat of the car, opened the door, and gently deposited her inside.
Picturing? What am I picturing? Some steamy scene?
He wasn't picturing anything—her playful pinching had just stirred something.
Waking up the next day, Isabelle's left arm felt sore.
She opened her eyes and saw someone very warm in front of her.
Damian had an arm around her waist and a leg thrown over hers, holding her as snugly as a doll.
It was rare for him not to get up early.
But in this position... his lower body was pressed right up against her.
Since Damian was still asleep, Isabelle didn't dwell on it.
She shifted slightly to face him, admiring his sharp features. She couldn't resist poking his nose, then tracing the line of his brow with a slender finger.
His eyelashes were unusually striking—not curly, but straight and cool-looking.
Suddenly, her gaze fell on the softest part of his entire body—his lips, the same ones that had ignited her passion last night.
She brushed her thumb over them. They were soft and pink.
And yet, these same lips can keep me up all night...
