Chapter 239 Fall and Rescue
Chapter 239 Fall and Rescue
“I don’t like you!” she stated resolutely.
“If you walk away now, I’ll tell everyone,” Kayden released her hand, his expression unnervingly calm.
Celeste froze, panic flashing in her eyes. “What are you trying to do?”

She gritted her teeth, clenching her fists so tightly her nails dug into her palms. The fear rushing through her completely overshadowed the sting.
“Be there when I call you.” Kayden had decided he had nothing left to lose.
“Get lost!” Celeste found him utterly repulsive. She turned to leave.
“I have pictures,” he said casually.
Celeste stopped dead in her tracks, her head spinning. “You wouldn’t.”
“You didn’t say no that night when I took you back to the room.” Kayden had no intention of backing down.
“Kayden, what good would ruining me do for you?”
“Plenty. I don’t really care about my reputation. But your parents? Both tenured professors, pillars of the community. You’d have just as much to lose if this got out. Or…” he paused, his gaze steady, “I wouldn’t be opposed to marrying you.”
Celeste felt the walls closing in, as if she’d walked right into his trap. But in the end, she’d made her own choices.
Seeing her terrified, unable to form a retort, a sly smile curled on/Kayden’s lips. He took her hand and led her away.
Maddox, watching from a distance, wondered what the two were discussing. Seeing them walk off hand–in–hand, he shrugged and
dismissed it.

A little past two in the afternoon, when the sun was at its peak.
The three women, tired from swimming, had retreated to soak in a hot spring pool, lounging by the edge and leisurely sipping iced coffee.
“I’m going to the restroom; I’ll be right back,” Sienna said, setting her drink down.
After using the stall, she stood at the sink washing her hands when another woman who had just exited bumped into her shoulder.
“Oops, my foot slipped,” the woman said with a smirk, nudging Sienna aside to use her sink.
Sienna frowned. “Yeah, real slippery,” she shot back coolly.
The woman’s face darkened. “Sienna, don’t think you’re so special just because you used some sneaky trick to land Mr. Wilder.”
“Whether it was a trick or not is irrelevant. The fact that I am marrying Mr. Wilder makes me special,” Sienna fired back without
hesitation.

Oh, showing your true colors now, are we?” The woman finished washing her hands, shook off the water, and pulled a paper towel from the dispenser.
“So what if I am? That’s called knowing how to get what you want. You? All you can do is pick fights with me. If you’re so brave, why don’t you go tell Mr. Wilder you’re in love with him and beg him to marry you?”
“I never said I was in love with him!” The woman flustered.
“You’re not? Then why are you coming at me? Do you have a thing for me instead? Sorry, not interested.” With that, Sienna turned and walked out.
The woman stammered “You–you–you!” behind her but couldn’t form a complete sentence. Fuming, she stomped her foot and followed Sienna out.
She did have feelings for Blaze–a poorly kept secret among their set.
By now, quite a crowd had gathered around the pool area. Many women were dressed to impress, all hoping to catch the eye of someone important at this celebratory party and secure their ticket up the social ladder.
A heavy feeling settled in Sienna’s chest. Her engagement to Blaze was one giant misunderstanding, and people in their circles were still whispering, saying she’d schemed her way into it.
But if only they knew it was the man himself who wouldn’t let go.
On the nights he had social dinners and came home stumbling drunk, he always had an excuse–force of habit, wrong room–to head straight to the master bedroom, curl around Sienna, and fall asleep.
Sienna was no match for his strength and couldn’t push him away, so she’d end up letting him hold her through the night.
Even though it was just sleeping, she was acutely aware of every shift in his body. Waking up like that left her utterly flustered.
She’d thought about locking the door, but the lock seemed to have mysteriously stopped working around the time she moved in. She was too embarrassed to call a locksmith, afraid he’d accuse her of trying to shut him out.
Even though he hadn’t actually overstepped.
Sienna hadn’t had a proper night’s sleep in days. It felt like ever since that first tipsy night he’d held her, he’d had a “social engagement” every single night since. She was starting to suspect it was deliberate.
Lost in her thoughts, she walked back toward the hot spring. As she passed the main pool, a woman lounging nearby casually stuck out her foot. Sienna tripped and stumbled forward.
The woman quickly reached out as if to help, but while Sienna was off–balance, she gave her a sharp push toward the water instead.
