Chapter 279 An Early Departure
Diana pressed her lips together, a mix of emotions swirling within her.
Brian really knew how to read someone.
He wasn’t wrong.

And honestly, it was precisely because it was Brian. Any other man, and she probably wouldn’t have given him the time of day.
Brian carefully applied the lipstick for her, his thumb gently smoothing the color over her lips, blending it meticulously at the
comers.
“This shade suits you,” Brian said, his gaze holding an intensity that went deeperhan the comment.
“Mhm, it’s quite moisturizing,” Diana replied, still holding her head up slightly, her eyes tracing the unfairly handsome lines of Brian’s face.
The lipstick was a gift from Brian–a full set of twenty–four tubes, each named after a season or a moment. This one was called “Midsummer“, a vibrant pinky–red with a subtle, fruity scent.
“My lips are feeling a bit dry. Mind if I try some?” Brian asked, his eyes never leaving hers.
Diana didn’t hesitate. “Sure, go ahead-”
Before she could finish the sentence, Brian leaned down and captured her lips with his own.
So… that was what he meant by “try“?
Diana was genuinely caught off guard.
His eyes, still holding that warm, liquid glow, seemed like deep pools–mysterious and impossibly compelling.
The kiss left Diana tense, her palms growing slightly damp as she stood frozen in place.
His fingers went to his tie, loosening the knot with a practiced tug.
Diana knew she couldn’t let things go any further here, in a borrowed room at a wedding. She placed her hands lightly against his chest, a silent push.
But Brian’s hand came up to cradle the back of her head, holding her gently in place. His voice was rough. “Still not moisturizing enough…”
His warm lips found hers again, this time with a deeper, more possessive claim.
Diana barely had a moment to catch her breath. Brian would pull back just as she began to feel lightheaded, allowing her a gasp air before surging forward once more.
At some point, faint sounds of movement and distant chatter filtered in from outside the makeup room door.
Brian finally broke the kiss, resting his forehead against hers.
Both of them breathed as if they’d just surfaced from deep water, lungs aching for air.

Brian Straightened up, standing behind her. He picked up a comb from the vanity and began carefully smoothing her now disheveled hair.
Diana quickly grabbed the lipstick to reapply what he had thoroughly messed up.
The door to the makeup room opened. It was Sienna.
She had just finished the ring exchange with Blaze at the altar and had returned for final touch–ups before changing into her reception gown for the toasts.
When she entered, the charged atmosphere in the room was palpable, but she was too polite to show any
reaction.
“Diana, are you feeling better?” Sienna asked, taking the empty seat next to her at the large vanity.
Her personal makeup artist and hairstylist followed her in and immediately began their work.
“I’m fine,” Diana replied, her cheeks still holding a high flush.
Brian, for his part, didn’t seem bothered, though a certain tension hadn’t fully left him. Staying positioned behind Diana was strategic–walking out now might have revealed the very noticeable evidence of their moment pressed against the front of his
trousers.
“Okay, good.”
Sienna’s eyes flicked to Brian’s now–crooked tie but she didn’t dare speculate on what might have transpired. She simply sat quietly, letting her team work.
Not long from now that might be me in a similar situation. The mere idea sent a wave of heat through her. She touched a fingertip to the corner of her own mouth–her skin felt feverish.
When Blaze had kissed her at the altar, her heart had practically leaped into her throat. The memory of his warm, steadying hand on the small of her back still tingled.
Ugh-
It felt like he’d kissed every coherent thought straight out of her head.
What even was consciousness? She honestly had no idea anymore.
She hadn’t processed a single word the officiant had said after “you may kiss the bride“.
୮
The only thing that had truly registered was the low rumble of Blaze’s voice saying, “Thank you,” directly to her.
Thank me? For what?
What did he mean?
The more she replayed it, the warmer her cheeks grew.
Just then, three light knocks sounded at the door, and Isabelle walked in.
“You’re all in here,” Isabelle said with a warm smile. Damian appeared in the doorway behind her, seeming to hesitate about entering.
