The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 591

“Will you be staying for lunch, Belinda?” Alexa asked, jumping at the chance. “I’d love to make a couple of extra dishes for you—what do you like?”

Belinda’s face fell. “No, thank you.”

“But you’ve come all this way, and it’s nearly lunchtime. Adding two more dishes won’t take a minute—” Alexa tried to persuade her, warmth in her voice.

Before she could finish, Susan tugged her into the kitchen. “Alexa, come here a second and take care of this soup.”

Alexa followed, confused. “Isn’t the soup already finished?”

Susan kept her voice low. “Don’t tell Catherine her mother-in-law was here, okay? Things between Catherine and Lance are... complicated. Catherine has no idea her mother-in-law comes to visit the child. If she finds out, there’ll be a big scene. Lance will give you a little something extra in your paycheck, just don’t let it slip.”

“What?” Alexa’s heart leapt in panic as she remembered the message she’d just sent. She grabbed her phone and hurriedly hit “unsend.” Fortunately, less than three minutes had passed—just in time.

Still, had Catherine seen it?

“Did you hear what I said?” Susan pressed, not convinced.

Alexa snapped out of it and nodded firmly. “I heard you, I swear. Not a word from me!”

With that, Susan headed back to the living room.

Minutes later, the redness on Lanny’s chest faded, and Belinda, reassured, stopped insisting they rush him to the hospital.

At eleven o’clock, Lance came down the stairs.
