If Valeria kept poking her nose in like this, she was definitely going to get on his bad side.
She pouted, feeling a little indignant. She was already twenty-two and a college graduate, but in Edward’s eyes, she was still just a kid. The funny thing was, Edward was only two years older than her.
Still, it felt awkward to dig into someone’s love life when they were sitting right there. Valeria decided to let it go for now.
Claire had only dozed off for a few minutes. When she opened her eyes, she saw Valeria sitting beside her. She glanced over and noticed Edward sitting next to Edison. Her brows lifted a little.
“Is she out yet?” Claire asked.
Valeria’s face lit up as soon as she saw Claire awake. “Not yet, but it shouldn’t be long.”
She leaned over, resting her head on Claire’s shoulder, and whispered, “Claire, I really think Tania and Edison had something going on.”
Claire looked a bit surprised. “Edison’s a grown man. It’s not weird for him to have had a girlfriend before.”
Valeria nodded. “My aunt’s had a lot of boyfriends, but people say she’s never gotten over her first love. Every guy she’s dated since then has looked just like him.”
Claire’s eyes widened. “Wait… her first love wasn’t Edison, was it?”
Valeria blinked back at her, and the look they shared said everything. No words needed.
Claire shook her head in disbelief. Edison was more impressive than she’d thought.
“Edison might not be the best-looking guy in the world, but he’s got that kind of dangerous charm,” Valeria whispered, thinking she was being discreet.
Both Edison and Edward turned to look at her.
Edward just stared, clearly out of patience. “Valeria, if you don’t have anything nice to say, maybe don’t say anything at all.”
Edison just smiled. “Thanks for the compliment.”
Valeria blinked at Claire, a little confused. “Claire, is ‘dangerous charm’ supposed to be a compliment?”
Claire had been suspecting something like this, but she hadn’t expected abuse too. It made sense, though. Human traffickers weren’t exactly known for being kind. Kids only mattered to them if they brought in money. Otherwise, they were treated like nothing more than goods.
Claire and Valeria couldn’t help but feel sorry for the little girl. If she hadn’t been taken by those traffickers, she never would have been caught up in all this.
Honestly, those traffickers were just disgusting.
Suddenly, the elevator doors opened and a man and woman came rushing out, looking frantic. A police officer followed close behind.
“Doctor, how’s our little girl?” the woman called out, practically in tears as they hurried over.
Claire and Valeria both turned to look at them.
The doctor looked a little unsure. “And you are?” He glanced at the police officer for confirmation.
The couple wasn’t local. They were from the next state over. It wasn’t far by car, but they’d only been in Apex for a vacation when they lost their daughter. The two of them had been searching everywhere ever since, barely sleeping. As soon as they got the news, they rushed over as fast as they could.
