The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 137

Claire didn’t have time to think. Stopping wasn’t an option.

“Where are we going?” she asked, picking up speed.

Dane glanced over, curiosity flickering in his eyes. “They might catch up. Are you scared?”

She shot back, “So, what, I’m supposed to leave you on the side of the road because I’m scared?”

He shrugged. “You could if you wanted.”

Claire frowned. “Quit joking. If you were really fine with me ditching you, you wouldn’t have asked for a ride on my scooter.”

Honestly, if things got desperate, he could have just stolen a scooter and taken off on his own. Then again, she remembered, he didn’t even know how to ride one.

Dane, for his part, had no clue what was running through Claire’s head.

All he knew was that the situation was dangerous. If those guys figured out which way he’d gone, they could be on them in no time.

“Just head to your university,” he said. “They won’t dare follow us inside, and they’ll never guess I’m hiding at a school.”

Claire rolled her eyes, but that was exactly what she’d been thinking.

From here, the only real option was to head up the mountain. If they went down, they’d probably run right into the guys chasing them.

She hesitated, then blurted out, “Who are those people? Why do they want to kill you?”

As soon as the words left her mouth, she winced. “Sorry. I shouldn’t ask. Don’t tell me. I really don’t want to know.”

A powerful family like the Greens was bound to have all kinds of secrets. Knowing too much would only get her into trouble.

Dane couldn’t help but find her a little cute in that moment. She was like a cautious little turtle, peeking her head out, only to pull it back at the first sign of danger.

People who valued their lives tended to be careful. He liked that about her.

“Damn it, we’ve been tricked!”

Back where the explosion happened, a bunch of men were sprawled on the ground, all of them banged up to some degree.

After a round of cursing and groaning, they dragged the worst-injured guy back into the car.
