“Edison, Grandma.” Cindy blinked, surprised to see the two of them at her school. Were they here for Claire? Back when Cindy was still a student, Grandma had always stayed in the countryside and never came to pick her up. As for Edison, he’d never been close to her. She honestly had no idea what Claire had done to win him over.
When she was little, Cindy used to think Edison was the most important and wealthy person in the whole James Village. He lived in the city, after all.
“Cindy, is it true you’re struggling with your grades?” Pandora asked, her eyes gentle but searching. As far as she remembered, Cindy had always done well in school. Otherwise, she never would’ve been able to transfer from a rural school into the city. Pandora had once thought about helping Cindy move to the city earlier, but Cindy insisted she could do it on her own. Given her grades, Pandora never doubted her. Now, with Cindy suddenly asking for extra lessons, Pandora couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised.
“Grandma, the classes here are moving a lot faster. It’s not like my old school at all.” Cindy’s voice trembled just a little, hoping for some sympathy.
Claire glanced at Pandora too, just in case she’d be asked to tutor Cindy. If it came down to that, she’d say no. Her schedule was packed already. Daniel still needed her help with his treatment.
Pandora frowned for a moment. “If you’re really having trouble keeping up, maybe you should switch to a different school?”
Lance gave a short, dry laugh. “Pandora, this is the best private school in the whole city. Parents do everything they can just to get their kids in. My folks worked hard to transfer Cindy to Silverpeak. You think she should just leave because you said so?”
She didn’t want the James family to know how wealthy Pandora really was. If they found out about the Agarwood pillow, or that Pandora owned a sprawling estate like Hearth & Kettle and an entire public company like VIA Group, they’d never leave her alone. Cindy would never want to keep her distance, and even Latham might try to claim Pandora as his mom for the inheritance.
Lance turned to her with a sneer. “And how exactly are you going to pay for that?”
He was still polite to Pandora, but with Claire he didn’t bother. Claire just stared at him like he’d lost his mind. “Did you forget? I sold the Agarwood pillow for twenty million.”
