Shirley sighed. “You sound just like my parents.”

“I heard Latham wants to buy up a plot of land over on the east side of the city, but the James family doesn’t have enough money. So the Byron family is stepping in, and now the two families are going to develop the land together.”

“Who knows which family will actually get the better end of the deal in the end?” Shirley added.

Ever since she’d picked up some confidence from Claire, Shirley had started paying more attention to what was going on in the family business.
