"I'm going to talk to Padgett tomorrow. There's no way he's getting out of this," Baldrick announced, his voice ringing with determination.
Dane gave him a calm look. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves."
Baldrick shot him a glare, clearly frustrated. "How am I supposed to stay calm? This is about whether or not you finally settle down. Dane, just because you look good doesn't mean there are tons of women out there truly interested in you. Think about it, how many of them actually like you for who you are? Most of them just want our family's money, or they're after your face."
"The Churchill family is rich, and so is the James family. Claire isn't going to pick you just for your money," Baldrick continued. "And with the way you act, you've probably scared off more girls than I can count. But Claire, she doesn't seem like the type who scares easily. Honestly, you two are kind of perfect together."
Dane pressed his lips together. "Maybe Claire doesn't care about my money. Maybe she isn't interested in my looks either. So what if she just doesn't like me at all?"
Baldrick rolled his eyes. "Relax. She might not care about your money, but trust me, she'll still like your face. To most people, your looks are just the icing on the cake. But for her, your money is just a bonus to your face."
Dane raised an eyebrow. "And how did you come up with that?"
He couldn't help but remember the time Claire had dragged him to the school gates, showing him off to everyone. She did seem to like his face more than anything else.
Baldrick blurted out, "Back when tons of people liked Pandora, she picked her man based on looks. I mean, I always thought Hale was the better choice, but Pandora insisted on marrying someone who'd join her family. That was just an excuse. Wasn't it just because Jackson was a bit better looking than Hale?"
"The women in the James family, they're all about looks."
If Pandora had been there, she probably would have scoffed.
