The Billionaire's True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 301

“York, I’m just not as good as Cindy. Do you really still like me?”

“Do you ever regret breaking up with her and getting engaged to me?”

Cindy looked at York like he was her last hope.

York saw the panic in her eyes and couldn’t help but feel for her. He reached over and gently patted her head. “Of course I don’t regret it.”

“We were supposed to be together anyway. Don’t let your imagination run wild.”

Cindy relaxed a little and snuggled closer to him. “Thank you, York. If you hadn’t shown up today… I don’t even know what would’ve happened.”

“Next time, try not to wander off, okay?” York actually liked the way Cindy depended on him. It was completely different from what he’d had with Claire.

Claire had always been so independent, in every possible way. With her, York sometimes wondered if he just wasn’t good enough for her. Maybe that was why she always kept her distance and never really warmed up to him. She could even handle people joking about them without the slightest bit of embarrassment.

Everyone said Claire was just a late bloomer, but after they called off the engagement, he noticed she didn’t act that way around other guys. For example, that guy Dane who had shown up at the school gates…

Cindy tried to find Claire in the crowd, but she was already gone. She had no choice but to look away.

Claire and Lawler walked together to the hospital entrance. Lawler already knew what Claire was going through, but since it was her personal life, he never asked about it. Still, there was something on his mind that he couldn’t quite say out loud.

“Lawler, if you want to ask me something, just say it. No need to keep hesitating,” Claire said.

“Actually, I just wanted to ask about my mom’s illness. If you were the one treating her... do you really think you could have helped her get better?”

Lawler hadn't gotten over her death, and lately, he’d been blown away by Claire’s skills with traditional medicine. She was amazing at acupuncture and her approach to herbal remedies was just so clever. If Claire had been the one to treat his mom, maybe things would’ve turned out differently.

“I actually have a kind of... big favor to ask.” Lawler had gone home secretly after realizing just how talented Claire really was. His father wasn’t exactly old, but his hair was already completely white. Over the years, he’d been just as lost in grief as Lawler had.

“If it’s a really big favor, then maybe you shouldn’t even ask,” Claire replied right away.

Lawler stared at her in disbelief. He definitely hadn’t expected her to refuse so directly.

“Um, I was just hoping you’d come back to my place to meet my dad.”

Claire grinned. “If you mean as your girlfriend, that would definitely be awkward. I’m way too young for you, you know.”

Lawler couldn’t help a small laugh. “Come on, I’m not about to start chasing after teenagers at my age.”

“I just want you to look at my dad’s old medical notes. Back when he was treating my mom, he kept lots of records. Maybe you could talk to him about it.”
