“That’s the thing with places like this. They look impressive, but living here isn’t actually all that comfortable.”
“If you want your own place, just have Lance give you his apartment across from the school.” Latham said this like he was being extra generous.
But Claire could see right through him. Honestly, if Latham actually cared about getting the estate, the least he could do was be a little more giving. Everybody knows you have to give a little to get what you want. Yet here he was, not even willing to buy her a new place, just trying to shove Lance’s used apartment at her.
And she seriously hated Lance. Sometimes the way he looked at her made her wonder if something was seriously wrong with him.
“That’s not necessary,” Claire replied, smiling politely. “I like this place. Maybe I’ll use it as a vacation spot when I feel like it.”
“As for where I’ll stay for school…” She barely got the words out before Latham interrupted her.
“I heard you’re still living with Edison?”
“I am,” Claire answered, not bothering to ask where he’d gotten that information.
Latham shook his head, clearly disapproving. “He’s a young man and you’re an adult now. It’s just weird for the two of you, uncle and niece, to live together.”
“Just move into Lance’s apartment. We can sign all the papers and hand it over to you. Besides, it’s right by your school, which is convenient.”
He really looked like he believed he was doing something nice for her.
“You don’t need to worry. I’ve already got a place of my own near campus,” Claire said. She didn’t mention that it was a gift from the White family. Jennifer had just told her the apartment was all ready, and she could move in before classes started.
“You bought one yourself?” Latham looked surprised. He automatically assumed she’d spent part of that twenty million on a place to live.
“You’re only there for one last semester. Buying an apartment just isn’t worth it.”
“If you really wanted to invest, you should’ve bought property in Cabinda. Twenty million could get you a great house there. It’d be enough space, even if you wanted to bring Pandora along in the future.”
