The Billionaire's True Heiress: From Fake Jewel to Real Crown novel Chapter 384

Ten minutes later, the four of them were standing outside the arcade, only just realizing what Shirley meant by “walking off the food.” She had dragged them here for games, not a stroll.

“Playing games at home just isn’t the same. The arcade is so much more fun,” Shirley said, her eyes already searching for the token machine. “Come on, let’s hurry up and get tokens. They’re running a holiday deal—twenty-nine bucks for a hundred coins.”

“I say we each get a hundred and have a claw machine showdown,” she suggested, getting more excited. “Whoever scores the most plushies wins. You guys in?”

It sounded like a good idea to Claire, so she nodded. Sophia and Len were quick to agree, both of them way too competitive to say no.

At school, the four of them were always at the top of the class. They just assumed being good at claw machines would come naturally, too.

But after half an hour and close to a hundred tokens each, reality set in. Sophia didn’t catch a single prize. Shirley barely managed to get two.

Len and Claire, though, kept racking up the wins.

“What’s up with those two? How are they so good at this?” Shirley said, half admiring, half exasperated.

In the end, Shirley and Sophia gave up, standing on either side of Len and Claire and just watching.

Claire had captured seven plushies, Len was right behind with six. Someone even brought over two shopping carts to hold all their winnings. They still had about thirty tokens left each.

Shirley quietly leaned over to Sophia and whispered, “Are straight-A students just naturally good at this stuff?”

Sophia grinned. “They’re probably running formulas through their heads, calculating the exact second to press the button for a perfect catch.”

She might have been joking, but she wasn’t wrong.

By the time they ran out of tokens, Claire had caught thirteen plushies and Len had eleven. Even the arcade staff were impressed.

“Wow, that’s the most anyone’s won all day,” one of them said, shaking their head.

They let the group trade in a bunch of smaller plushies for the big ones. Shirley picked a giant bunny, Sophia chose a dinosaur. Claire grabbed a long hippopotamus she could use as a body pillow. Len got one too, though he didn’t say anything about his choice.
