Claire sat facing the police, calm as ever. “I’m just here with Oakley’s manager for a set visit. I barely know him, let alone have a reason to hurt him. Why would I?”
The officer paused for a moment. That actually made a lot of sense. “Don’t worry, this is just a routine check. If it turns out you weren’t involved, we won’t bother you again.”
Still, there was something bugging the officers. Wasn’t there some drama between Claire and the lead actress? Elena, the star, seemed pretty eager to point fingers the minute Claire showed up. Nothing had ever gone wrong on set before. So why did chaos break out on her first day?
“Did you talk with Elena at all today? Any arguments or tension?” the female officer asked, watching Claire carefully.
Claire arched a brow. Now it all clicked. Someone had clearly tried to shift the blame her way. “No arguments, no drama. Honestly, we hardly spoke to each other at all.”
She shook her head, exasperated. “Does she really think I did it? You think I’m out here sabotaging Oakley just to play the hero and ‘save’ him?” She scoffed. “What, did I want him to owe me one or something?”
Her points landed. The officer nodded, unable to find any holes in her story. Still, Elena hadn’t exactly come off as a liar. “So you and Elena don’t have any issues between you? No past history?”
Claire shrugged. “We don’t know each other. There’s nothing between us. I have no clue why she’s saying all this.”
That stuck with the officer. Without any history or grudges, Elena’s accusations felt a little too pointed, almost like she was trying to direct attention away from herself. What if Elena had something to hide? By naming Claire, was she just trying to throw off suspicion?
