The moment Eaton laid eyes on Claire, he just couldn’t help himself. “Hey, beautiful, what’s your name?” he asked, grinning a little too eagerly. “My friends said you’re the one who saved me. Mind if I get your number?”

Eaton had been awake for a bit, but he was still staring at Claire like she was the only person in the room.

Claire, meanwhile, was calmly disinfecting her gold acupuncture needles. Hearing him try to flirt, she gave him a smile that was all polite on the surface, but her eyes stayed cool. “Looks like the patient’s still a little out of it. Maybe I should give you a few more needles to help you wake up?”

The emergency doctor could see exactly what she was doing.

Before anyone else could say a word, Eaton caught sight of the long needles and immediately went pale. He waved his hands at Claire. “No, no, I’m good, I promise. I’m totally awake!”

After that, he didn’t ask for her name again.

With her job done, Claire finished cleaning up the needles and slipped out of the room.

Back in the office, she picked up where she’d left off with her lunch. She ate quickly, but there was still something refined about the way she moved. She didn’t have much choice. The food was cooling off way too fast in this weather.

Luckily, Abbott had asked one of the students to grab her some soup from the cafeteria, and just a few sips warmed her right up.

When she heard Abbott would be joining her for Baldrick’s consultation, Claire agreed right away.

Just as they were about to leave, a nurse hurried over and knocked on the door. “Dr. Abbott, the family of that patient—they’re looking for Claire.”

Both Claire and Abbott paused in surprise.

But it was too late. The patient’s family had already followed the nurse, and Lily was with them.

“Larkin, Lily, this is Claire, the one who did acupuncture on Eaton,” someone announced.

“She’s way too young to have a medical license. If anything happens to Eaton, she’ll be responsible,” someone else insisted.
