The Cascadia team came ready to win. They weren’t just hoping for first place—they were counting on it. But honestly, wasn’t everyone?
“We’re rivals this time. Even if you’re gorgeous, don’t expect me to take it easy on you,” Elvis said, sounding completely sure of himself.
Claire grinned. “No need. May the best person win.”
Elvis liked that she didn’t get annoyed. If anything, her easy laughter made her even more likable. “You’re easily the prettiest girl from Solenia I’ve seen,” he said, not holding back at all. He assumed a line like that would make any girl happy. Wasn’t that what they all liked—compliments and sweet words?
“You just haven’t met enough Solenian girls,” Claire replied, dead serious. “There are loads of beautiful ones where I’m from.”
He leaned in a little, trying to be smooth. “Maybe, but you’re something special. Honestly, your eyes practically tell stories on their own…” He waved his hands, struggling to find the right words.
Before Claire could think of a comeback, she felt a strange chill, the kind that warns you trouble’s coming. She turned—and there was a stunning blonde, stomping straight toward her. The girl’s glare was icy, full of fury, like she was ready for a fight.
Claire’s instincts kicked in and she stepped back, putting space between her and Elvis.
But the blonde kept coming and snatched a glass of red wine from a nearby table.
“Julia?” Elvis recognized her and quickly moved to block her path to Claire. Julia had a reputation for losing her temper and her family had plenty of pull around here. She acted like she owned everyone else. Every time Elvis even spoke to another girl, Julia flew off the handle.
“Elvis, get out of my way. Who is she?” Julia started to shove Elvis aside and without warning, tossed the wine straight at Claire.
Claire was quick. She dodged and the wine missed, splattering harmlessly on the floor. Before Julia could attack again, Claire coolly grabbed another glass and sent it flying right into Julia’s face.
