With all those bodyguards around her, if anything went wrong at the hospital, Norris honestly wasn’t sure he could get Claire back on his own. Girls these days never seemed to think things through. They just acted on a whim, and honestly, it drove him crazy.
"I’ll go with her. You stay here to look after the students." Dane’s voice came out of nowhere, surprising both Claire and Norris.
"What are you doing here?" Claire looked genuinely shocked.
Norris was even less pleased. "Seriously, why are you here?"
Dane looked totally unfazed. "I’m in town for work. Thought I’d stop by and check in." He hadn’t expected that the moment he arrived at their hotel, he’d hear someone had a heart attack. And once he realized it was The Ford Family’s daughter, with Claire getting involved, he got worried something might happen to her. People back home respected Claire’s skills as a doctor, but who knew how things might go overseas. The Green Family had important business with The Ford Family, so it made sense for Dane to stick around. At the very least, he could keep an eye on Claire.
Norris listened and didn’t buy it for a second. He was convinced his future brother-in-law was up to something. Was it possible that Dane, who always kept his distance from women, had really fallen for Claire? Sure, Claire was stunning and incredibly talented, but she was still so young. Did Dane really want people talking about their age gap?
"I’m coming with you," Norris finally said. There was no way he was letting Claire go with Dane alone.
Dane seemed fine with it and didn’t argue.
Elvis had already gotten into the ambulance with Julia. Claire climbed in, too, worried that someone might mess with the acupuncture needles. The other doctor riding along couldn’t stop calling people, probably explaining that someone had used medicine and acupuncture techniques from Solenia and he wasn’t sure how to handle it.
Dane and Norris followed the ambulance to the hospital. They all got there at almost the same time.
Inside the hospital, an older doctor was already waiting for them. His hair was streaked with white, and he had a serious, commanding presence. The second the ambulance doors opened, the paramedic jumped out and rushed over to fill him in.
