“Trust a dad like you? What is wrong with me!”
Danny was speechless. He couldn’t believe he was losing an argument to this kid.
“Do you know what that stone could be worth? All you do is argue with me. If you’re so smart, try getting it back yourself!” Danny jabbed a finger at the emerald in Claire’s hand.
Roth glanced at her and shrugged. “Knowing the value doesn’t matter. What’s sold is sold, no take-backs.”
“If she hadn't agreed to buy my stone, I wouldn’t have been able to pay for my mom’s hospital deposit. Who knows what would’ve happened to her by now.”
Roth did feel a little regret, but before this, the best offer anyone had given him was barely two hundred. Selling for two thousand? That was a miracle in his world.
He never wanted more, just enough to get his mom through this.
Whatever that stone might be worth now, that was someone else’s luck. None of his business.
Claire was a little caught off guard by how level-headed Roth was about the whole thing.
“Come over here,” Claire said, waving him over.
With Danny locked in place by the bodyguards, Roth walked over to Claire, ready for whatever came next.
“Don’t worry, Claire. I already sold the stone to you. I’m not asking for it back or anything. I know how these deals work.”
“My grandpa left that stone to me. Danny has nothing to do with it. ”
Claire smiled softly, surprised at how mature he was.
She nodded. “What’s your mom sick with? Is the money enough?”
Roth bit his lip, looking down. “The hospital needed the two thousand upfront. I have no idea if that’ll cover everything, but I’ll figure something out.”
