The Day I Walked Away My Empire Began novel Chapter 310

It was hopeless. The security team had spent the entire night questioning the two men.

Jose and Nathan acted like they’d rehearsed this. No matter what anyone tried, they just clammed up, repeating the same lines over and over—I don’t know, I wasn’t involved.

Watching them on the monitor, Lucie felt her last shred of hope disappear. She made up her mind. “Ruby, call the police. We need them to handle this.”

“Okay.”

With losses this huge—over half a billion—this was way out of her league. Only the law could deliver any kind of justice, for the Anderson family and for her grandfather.

Ruby had just picked up the phone when the office door swung open.

Steven walked in, all sharp lines in a black suit, his presence impossible to ignore. The bodyguards barely slowed him down. “Mr. Heath, you can’t go in—”

Lucie’s frustration boiled over. “Steven, what are you doing here now?”

“Don’t call the police,” he said, cutting her off, his voice brooking no argument.

She stared at him, incredulous. “Excuse me?”

Steven crossed the room with those long strides of his, his tone low and serious. “The police are too slow. By the time they finish all their paperwork, those artifacts will be long gone, probably out of the country. You’ll never get them back.”

Lucie let out a shaky breath. “Steven, this isn’t your problem. Stay out of it.”

“How could it not be?”

He looked at her, steady and unflinching. “I was your husband. We shared four years together. Divorce doesn’t erase that. I told you before—if you ever need help, I’m here.”

He paused, his eyes going darker. “Send everyone out. Let me handle this. Give me thirty minutes—I’ll get them to talk.”
