The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 425

That fear was real, and it had kept me alive for a decade, and I wasn’t just going to forget it because of one full moon and a kiss.

But no matter how hard I tried to push it down, that pull remained. The way he had looked at me from across the dance floor tonight, like there was no one else in the room worth looking at. The way I’d looked back.

I thought about the greenhouse, and his hands on my waist, and the fact that even now, all I could notice was the other couples around me, fresh marks and old ones renewed by the silvery pull of the full moon, and how I wished that were me.

I pressed the heel of my hand against my temple and sighed. It was just the full moon talking; I knew that. My wolf was in heat right now, but come morning, I knew I would likely wake up full of embarrassment.

At least it was better than waking up with regrets.

“You’re going to freeze.”

I turned. Sebastian was coming toward me. His jacket was off and folded over his arm. He held it out to me as he approached.

I took it. “Thanks.” I pulled it around my shoulders, grateful for the warmth.

He came to sit beside me and shot me a sidelong glance. “Gideon?” he guessed.

“My wolf,” I said at first. Then, more honestly, “Yeah. Gideon.”

Sebastian was quiet for a moment. He tucked his hands into his pockets, stretching his legs out in front of us with one ankle crossed over the other, and tilted his face up toward the moon.

“I saw her, too,” he said. “The woman he left with.”

I said nothing.

“You don’t have to explain yourself, Avery. It’s a full moon. Your mate is in the same building.” He glanced at me again. “You would have to be made of stone not to feel it.”

“Well, then I’d like to be made of stone.”

“I know.”

I exhaled through my nose and stared at the tree line. “It’s not fair.”

I felt Sebastian looking at the side of my face. “Sometimes mate bonds aren’t fair,” he said after a moment. “I know from experience.”
