The Heartless Alpha’s Beloved Luna (Avery and Gideon) novel Chapter 478

Not just her, but his heir, too? If I had them both, then Gideon would never live that down. The failed combat would pale in comparison to that kind of victory.

But the thing was, I had spent so much time trying to prove myself to Avery. I had done everything in my power to show her that I could give her everything she needed: a beautiful home, an ideal pack, a perfect father for Bjorn. I’d given her space to work, built her a study, offered her my name and my mark without expecting a single thing in return.

And what had she done?

She’d gone back to Gideon. Again and again. Every time I thought she might finally cave, he was there. No matter how hard I tried to keep them apart, her walls would come down just enough for him to slip through, and I would be left standing on the outside with no way in.

It was infuriating.

I’d been patient. I’d been understanding. I’d done everything right, and it still wasn’t enough.

But maybe this could change things.

If Avery found out that Gideon had gone behind her back, that he’d stolen a sample from Bjorn without her permission, without even asking… She would be furious. And rightfully so. It was a violation of her trust, a complete disregard for her boundaries.

And when she was furious at Gideon, who else would she turn to but me?

I knew exactly what I needed to do.

Avery was back in her study by the time I found her. I could hear glass clinking and the sound of her muttering to herself as she moved around inside. The door was cracked, and I could see her walking back and forth, carrying beakers and plant samples in her hands. Even from the hallway, the air smelled like something burning.

I knocked on the doorframe.

“Yeah?” she called out.

Pushing the door open, I poked my head inside to find Avery doing exactly what I expected her tto be doing: boiling something over a bunsen burner and writing frantically in a notebook, surrounded by potted plants and ground-up herbs. The smell made my nose want to wrinkle, but I wouldn’t let it.
